when doing transformations, you do it to everything you already have

so eg if you wanted to move x^2 + 2x + 1 up by 3 units, youd do (x^2 + 2x + 1) + 3

which is x^2 + 2x + 4

if you then wanted to stretch it, you multiply all of this

you wanna stretch x^2 + 2x + 4 not x^2 + 2x + 1 cuz thats not your graph any more

same otherway round

if you wanna stretch then shift up, you stretch first

so 1/2 (x^2 + 2x + 1), then add 3

#

youre shifting up the stretched graph in this case
