The angle of depression is labelled incorrectly
It means 23 degrees from the horizontal
Also the triangle you form should have 500m as hypotenuse
I probs sound stupid but what’s that
Not a stupid question at all. Essentially draw a dashed-line from A that is horizontal. The angle of depression is 23 degrees below that line
So the angle between the horizontal and the 500m line
Your triangle would have hypotenuse that is the 500m line
And you want to calculate the vertical height so the side on the left
I still have no idea sorry
That's okay. So do you understand where the 23 degrees is from the image I sent
Yes
And the question asks for the vertical height. That is referring to the vertical line on the left in our triangle
okay
So we can use the sine rule here
Okay I see. Well essentially it states that (sinA)/a = (sinB)/b
In this case let's say sinA is sin90 and side a is 500m
So 500/sin(90) = x/sin(23).
We can flip the sine rule too
oh okay so 500/sin(90) is= sinb?
=x/sinB where x is the missing side and B is 23 degrees
