Why does he divide by 2 each time? <@&791435371564892232> ( sorry didn’t want to keep asking Andy to much if he was busy )

Quadratic Sequences

Wdym divide by 2

delicate loom
#

When he is dividing by 2

#

On the sequence

wild heath
#

Oh okay nvm I got it

#

So think about square numbers yeah

delicate loom
#

Yh

wild heath
#

So 1,4,9,16,25….

delicate loom
#

Yep

wild heath
#

What is the difference between each number

delicate loom
#

Square numbers or the sequences?

wild heath
#

The square numbers I have provided above

delicate loom
#

3,5,7,9

wild heath
#

And what’s the difference between each of those numbers

delicate loom
#

2

wild heath
#

And I’ve given you the sequence of n^2

delicate loom
#

But why is he dividing by 2?

wild heath
#

Because we’ve just proven it’s the case for n^2 (any square number), so he’s applying that to the sequence to get the n^2 term

delicate loom

Thanks

@rough agate @wild heath

#

How does this work because

#

If you continued square numbers x 3

#

U would get 48

#

Which is right bc that -5 is 43

#

But then 27 x 3 = 81

#

And 81 - 5 isn’t 70?

wild heath
#

27 isn’t a square number

delicate loom
#

9x3

#

Bc he x them all by 3

#

Cause it’s 3n^2

wild heath
#

3(5^2)-5=70

delicate loom
#

Oh bc the way he is doing it to see the pattern of -5 is

#

X the square numbers by 3

#

Then seeing what to - to get back to original

#

OH

#

OH

#

NVM SORRY
