If 5 was in the bracket in the second one and you expanded it out, you wouldn't get the original expression
If you like all of it in the bracket you can do -2(x^2 -6x - 5/2) and complete the square like that and you'll still get the same answer, but here you can see if you expanded it out, you'd get the original expression
