so for the question on the left
ur given the adjacent to the angle and u need to work out the opposite
so u need to use tan since its toa
alright so far?
yeah that seems correct
u gotta use a calculator to work out tan 44
then multiply both sides by 40 to find x
its tan(44)= x/40 btw
so u just solve for x
oh if u want to get x on its own
u multiply both sides by 40
i dont think u need tan-1 if ur just working out a side
only use tan-1 when u have both sides and working out the angle
u pretty much have the answer
i think ur confused on the solving for x bit
so youve got tan44 = x/40 right
yeah so u know what tan 44 is right
btw when u put it in the calculator make sure to use the answer button rather than rounding it up so ur answer is more precise
so basically its 0.965 = x/40
and in order to get just x on the right side, you gotta multiply both sides by 40
so it'd be 0.965 x 40 = x
yup
thats the answer
oh but it says to 2 decimal places
the answer u said idnt
isnt
thats only 1
