for these types of questions, part C specifically, is it safe to assume that there is:

  • a period that Q is moving up due to force then tension
  • then a period of time in which Q is SLACK and moving under force of gravity ? @polar meadow
    I couldn't understand the mark scheme, that's why

I would've used two SUVATs.
One for Q moves up while P is moving down

Second one:
P hits ground and Q moves under force of gravity for some time because string goes slack
