wall adapters?

y'know those things with ethernet ports that connect to the wall, one near the router, one near your pc, an ethernet cable on each side forms an ethernet connection through the house's wiring

#

I've been using em just fine till now lol

your only options are to run ethernet cable to the router or set up a wifi mesh network for better signal, but mesh networks have drawbacks like higher latency

reset the router

#

resetting the router is not going to do anything with electrical socket ethernet adapters

#

the speed they're getting is the best they can expect

#

they said it was fine until now

torpid veldt
#

yeah fine until now could mean anything though

#

something could have happened to the wiring

#

resetting router doesnt really do much unless it;s running extremely hot it might show an issue

#

giving it time to rest and cool can sometimes help

bronze wind
#

just reset the entire network and see if thats an issue, literally thats what we’re instructed to do by the ISP

#

thats the first step to troubleshooting

#

turn it on and off

🤷‍♂️

#

cant do much if they wont reset it all

if they were getting higher speeds before with the same setup, it's very likely something has changed that's affecting it. i'd suggest doing a process of elimination.

  1. reset the router like markus said. this eliminates the router being bogged down as the issue.

  2. redo the speed test but manually select a different server then test. sometimes, test servers show far lower speeds than normal due to network traffic or routing issues. this eliminates server traffic congestion as the issue.

  3. move the PC closer to the router or run a long ethernet cable from the router directly to the PC temporarily then test it out. this eliminates the power line adapters as the culprit.

  4. ensure you have updated drivers for the lan and chipset. eliminates software as the issue.

feel free to post back if u figure out the issue. if your issue gets resolved on step 3, there are other steps you can do to see what's causing it, as well as ways to resolve it.
