Specs:
i9 14900k
Gigabyte RTX 4090 gaming OC
MSI z690 Edge DDR4 WIFI
Corsair PSU 1000W,
64 GB DDR4 3600MHZ

So recently i had just upgraded my pc, i swapped the PSU, the CPU and the GPU. Ive been playing hard hitter games like Spider Man, Cyberpunk and Fortnite. In spider man my game has crashed like 4 times already, in cyberpunk not yet and in fortnite like 5 times. (3of those being in fortnite festival 💀 )The thing is whenever my game crashes, the picture freezes but the game audio is till audible (at least in spider man). My pc has yet to crash itself. Havent gotten BSOD. I have used 3DMark to stress my gpu for 20 loops and temps are completely fine and it didnt crash the software. I have used ddu to fresh install my gpu drivers, still nothing. Ive monitored my cpu and gpu using HWmonitor and temps are normal. Heres one example i caaught in spiderman.

sounds like it could a bunch of factors. it could be ram settings need to be loosened or increase voltage slightly to dram. it could be the cpu plate that holds it in place is slightly off center causing pins to shift too much when power increases to the cpu when running a games. the psu might be faulty. the motherboard maybe cant handle the power requirements of the 14900k.

i would swap back in the old cpu if you still have it, and test the system again

  1. which version of windows are you running?

  2. from which CPU did you upgrade from?

  3. did you do a fresh install of windows after the upgrade or just drivers?

I’m running windows 10, I upgraded from an i7 12700k and all I did was a fresh install of drivers

#

I’m gonna try swapping the cpu first and see

#

Also if the psu is at fault wouldn’t I have at least experienced some BSOD?

also idk if this had to do with anything but you know how these cpus have integrated graphics. when i load up ddu, it detects both alder lake and raptor lake

okay, we can start with some general things.

  1. 12th gen Intel and newer tend to perform better on Windows 11 compared to Windows 10 due to the updated scheduler. you might wanna consider upgrading the OS.

  2. whether you decide to update or not is up to you but if you do, i highly suggest to do a fresh install instead of simply "upgrading" to windows 11 using the update tool.

if you decide to stay on windows 10, you'll have to do some cleaning of the drivers.

  1. u've already started using DDU. i'd suggest to completely wipe all display drivers, which means running it more than once, maybe even more than twice. only then you should install your new GPU's drivers.

while the above steps does not completely eliminate software as the cause, it at least eliminates majority of the most common causes:

  1. scheduler conflict (by updating to windows 11)
  2. removing old, outdated, and/or corrupted system files and configurations including device drivers (doing a fresh install)
  3. removing old, outdated, and/or conflicting device drivers (using DDU)

side note: there's also a possibility that the game's anti-cheat software is getting triggered and is what's crashing the game. it'll be like witch hunting trying to figure out the solution if this is the case but is often resolved by just doing a fresh install of the OS and starting things basically from scratch.

good luck!

so i swapped out my parts back to the old ones i had minus the PSU and im still having crashes. Gonna do a fresh install of windows now.

#

so it wasnt my gpu nor cpus fault m assuming

#

even if i stress out my parts

#

Also what do you mean by completely wipe display drivers? I thought the nvidia drivers is all you need to wipe

#

Also in that Spiderman clip i showed you, when I looked at my cpu and gpu usage it’s all low like if my pc is idle. But the game still seemed to be running. Really weird

#

Although one good thing is that I think at this point I can completely eliminate any hardware issues. And probably conclude that the issue is either the games itself or like you said there’s some little bit of corrupted crumbs in my system. Anyways will be trying a fresh install of windows 10, and if the problem still persists I will be doing a windows 11 install. Thank you

does the power supply use the native 12pin gpu cable or are you using a pcie to 12pin adapter?

#

going along with that, if you are using a 12 pin adapter do you have 3 seperate pcie cables going into it?

#

have you tested another gpu in the system

#

memory is my go to when it comes to bsod but gpus are a close second

buoyant siren
#

so im using a 12 pin adapter that come with nvida, yes i have 2 seperate pcie cables going into it. basically i have my old 3070ti that ive used for a year and it worked completely fine until after the whole swap of the 4090

Yeah my system is cooked bruv, can’t even go into safe mode anymore without this popping up 💀 fuck

#

this may sound dumb, but what keyboard and mouse are you using

#

many people complain of the issue and the keyboard or mouse is triggering an install attempt on its software. Apparently it breaks safemode.

buoyant siren
#

yeah theyre complaining about it being razer, which is what i have lol

#

Fortunately tho I “fixed” it by just uninstalling the last quality updates I installed for windows 11, although I’m afraid it might happen again after my computer tries to update again
