I just built my PC today and went to try it out, the cpu overheats after 10-20 seconds after starting. The PC is forced to shut off after reaching 104 degrees Celsius.

If anyone can assist me, it would be much appreciated.

Pc parts:

B650 Aorus Elite AX - Motherboard
4000D Airflow Corsair - Case
Geforce RTX 4070 Ti - Graphics card
Ryzen 9 7900x - CPU
Corsair RM850x - Power supply
G.skill Trident Z5 32gb - Ram
SN850x NVMe SSD
and EK Nucleus AIO CR360

icy kelp
#

did you remove these prior to putting on the aio

fallow palm
#

oh shoot i missed that

mossy flame
#

that or remove the plastic off the bottom of the cold plate

fallow palm
#

now i know what you are talking about

icy kelp
dense owl
#

I did not

fallow palm
#

that should solve the issue

icy kelp
#

you're gonna have to

tribal parrot
#

Remove them

icy kelp
#

the cooler isn't touching the cpu

dense owl
#

Alright

tribal parrot
#

Those are old am4 bracket

icy kelp
#

because that clamp is lifting it above

mossy flame
#

yeah while you are at it make sure you removed whatever protects the factory thermal paste on the bottom of the cold plate/pump

#

or whatever ek does.

fallow palm
#

the plastic is removed

#

it's just the clamp

mossy flame
#

id double check just to make sure.

fallow palm
#

i had them double check previously

mossy flame
#

that way you are not doing this..again.

fallow palm
#

but yea it doesn't hurt

icy kelp
#

there's no plastic sticker when thermal paste is preinstalled

#

just a plastic clamshell thing

fallow palm
#

true that

mossy flame
#

hey man...

#

some people forget it

fallow palm
#

original photo that let me know there was an issue with contact

mossy flame
#

kay good, just remove the stock amd clip holder things

fallow palm
#

thumbprint on the thermal paste lol

mossy flame
#

so it touches the cpu

#

might need to install ek's backplate though

fallow palm
#

i legit didn't take a look at that since i used the stock cooler on my cpu

icy kelp
#

ek uses stock amd backplate

tribal parrot
#

The Am4 holder didn't allow the four pillar to be fully seated. That should be the problem

mossy flame
#

then just dont lose it

tribal parrot
#

This is why u read the manual

mossy flame
#

behind the motherboard because im pretty sure those clip holder thingys, are whats holding that backplate in place right now

#

and you take them off, and it will just fall off the board

dense owl
#

I had left over pieces from the AIO cooler

#

And I saw on the manual something needed to be connected on the back side

icy kelp
#

that is for intel

mossy flame
#

^

dense owl
#

Now that I removed the two pieces

mossy flame
#

should have a way better contact pattern

#

and or one period

icy kelp
#

and also double check to make sure you're using the right mounting screws

dense owl
#

Can I just put on the AIO?

mossy flame
#

make sure the backplate didnt fall but sure.

dense owl
icy kelp
#

has to be these ones with the thicker base

mossy flame
#

i mean that doesnt show me the backplate

#

that is on the otherside of the motherboard

icy kelp
#

the backplate is on

mossy flame
#

where the cutout

icy kelp
#

otherwise you wouldn't see the threaded holes

fallow palm
#

mounting screw is on

mossy flame
#

oh you can kinda see the pillars i guess

fallow palm
#

shouldn't that be threaded into the backplate first?

icy kelp
#

am5 backplate is different, it's directly attached to the ilm

#

so it doesn't just fall off

fallow palm
#

oh ok

mossy flame
#

i think u can still shove it off though no?

sturdy kayak
#

no

icy kelp
#

nope it's screwed into the ilm

sturdy kayak
#

you cant

fallow palm
#

im used to the thread sticking out, then you align the head to the threads

mossy flame
#

oh thats cool.

#

means i cant be a dipshit and just shove it off!

fallow palm
#

so they should be good with screwing on the pump right?

icy kelp
#

the only way it'd fall off is if you removed the ilm to put on a contact frame

mossy flame
#

i for sure havnt had to go fishing for a backplate before because i was a moron and shoved the screws onto it too hard and it just fell off behind the mb into the case...

icy kelp
#

uh not quite don't put it on

fallow palm
#

that's what i thought

icy kelp
#

that mounting screw goes onto the motherboard first

mossy flame
#

you screw the things into the bracket and then mount the pump onto they..

#

yeah. nvm

fallow palm
#

don't they need to remove the mounting screw from the cooler?

mossy flame
#

kev has it.

icy kelp
#

yeah

dense owl
#

Should I try and separate both the screws?

icy kelp
#

separate yes

#

put the mounting screws into the board, then install the cooler

fallow palm
#

smh i don't know AIOs since i have no first hand experience

#

but following the manual is easy enough

mossy flame
#

can be tricky when weird hardware is involved, am4 was pretty straight forward though

#

at least my evga one was.

icy kelp
#

well considering this one uses its own screws and not the stock clamp it's closer to using an air cooler

fallow palm
#

my stock AM4 cooler was easy enough lol

#

AM4 uses the stock clamp for lots of air coolers

tribal parrot
icy kelp
#

I hate the clamps

#

I just installed 3 aio's that used them

sturdy kayak
#

stock am4 cooler as in the wraith spire

mossy flame
#

the clamps can blow me i have bled for those things...

sturdy kayak
#

or wraith stealth

#

i dont think mystic ever had the fancy one

fallow palm
#

stealth i think. non rgb

#

5600x

mossy flame
#

what i got on my 2600x currently.

tribal parrot
#

Clamp was not fun.

mossy flame
#

bled for that bish to get on

tribal parrot
#

That's what my corsair aio came with. I had to request am5 bracket from them.

#

Anyway, aio installed? Thermal paste smeared on cpu?

fallow palm
#

yea what's the status update?

sturdy kayak
#

anything that uses clamps i always doubt its mounting pressure or how you have to put extra pressure on one side to get it onto the other side

#

no bueno

tribal parrot
dense owl
#

Good so far?

icy kelp
#

yep, make sure those are fully tight with the included tool that they gave then put on the aio

#

there's no thermal paste on that cpu so for sure the cooler didn't make contact last time otherwise the cpu would be smeared in paste

fallow palm
#

mhm

mossy flame
#

for warning do not heman the shit outta them

#

he-man*

dense owl
#

Alright, it is all screwed in

#

Should I keep it in the system fan 4 or the cpu_opt?

icy kelp
#

plug the pump into cpu_opt then the aio fans into cpu_fan

#

system fan 4 might track case temp and not cpu temp idk

dense owl
#

Alright

#

Done

#

Now I turn it on and try?

icy kelp
#

mhm

#

tightened down the screws on the cooler as well?

dense owl
#

I heard some sort of liquid this time

icy kelp
#

if it's on properly then cpu temp should be somewhere around 30c

fallow palm
#

system fan 4 was the pump header on the mobo

#

so that should work as well but OPT is fine

icy kelp
#

this was with an air cooler

dense owl
#

Yo

#

It is looking so much better

#

Thank you so much fellas

#

It means a lot

fallow palm
#

yay

icy kelp
#

👍

fallow palm
#

now you need to install windows.

icy kelp
#

now back to writing assignments that I should've been doing all this time

fallow palm
#

then turn on XMP/DOCP

icy kelp
#

maybe bios update to latest one first

#

assuming you had another system to download a new bios to a flashdrive on

icy kelp
#

if not then ignore that and you can do it later

dense owl
#

I will have to do that tomorrow
