Hello, my new build keeps crashing while gaming.
When the PC crashes the game will either freeze and I have to reboot OR the game will simply close and I will see the desktop.

CPU: Ryzen 7 7700x
GPU: 4070ti

All drivers are up to date. Fresh windows install. GPU and CPU temps are healthy (stays below 55C).

Not sure what else to check from here. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

how about your ram

#

Do you have an expo kit? Have you disabled XMP? Have you ran crystal disk?

@dense ledge @dense ledge From windows error logs: The server {8CFC164F-4BE5-4FDD-94E9-E2AF73ED4A19} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

dense ledge
#

I don’t believe that’s a relevant error though. Check various sections in event viewer for things around the time of the crash

dense ledge
rugged marlin
#

The only error thats reported is the DCOM thing

dense ledge
#

are they blue screens?

rugged marlin
#

no

#

Game itself freezing or crashin to desktop mostly.

#

There has been a few times the PC rebooted

dense ledge
#

and your pc doesn't in the same titles?

#

nothings overclocked

rugged marlin
#

Yes mine does not. Nothing is overclocked

dense ledge
#

hmmm

#

did you set EXPO

rugged marlin
#

No, noidea what that is

#

but researching online im 99% sure it's memory related

dense ledge
#

expo is amd's equivalent to xmp

rugged marlin
#

@dense ledge So in bios i need to search for it and disable?

#

Im running memtest now

dense ledge
#

diasble it and see if that makes it more stable

rugged marlin
#

ok. any thing bad about disabling?

dense ledge
#

well yes but this is to check for stability

#

much faster than running a memtest

rugged marlin
#

@dense ledge EXPO was disabled

#

so i enabled it

#

testing now

#

could that be the issue?

dense ledge
#

no

rugged marlin
#

So you mean the ram should always work properly with EXPO disabled?

dense ledge
#

running at default speeds should resolve any instability even though its slower

#

yes

rugged marlin
#

hmm

dense ledge
#

what games are crashing

rugged marlin
#

man im freaking frustrated

#

Call of duty mw, fortnite, steam disney (the mmo one), fall guys

#

basically anything not league of legends

#

and diablo is about to drop

#

feelsbadman

dense ledge
#

are you launching them in safe mode

rugged marlin
#

its A 1440P dual display if that helps

#

no

dense ledge
#

launch them in safe mode

rugged marlin
#

ok

dense ledge
#

i know cod gives you the option

rugged marlin
#

ok

#

if safemode works what does that mean?

dense ledge
#

well after cod crashes and you try to relaunch it recommends you to relaunch in safe mode

#

just click yes

#

have you reverified the game files

rugged marlin
#

yes gamefiles good

#

will try safemode

bold bluff
#

what are you using to see cpu temp?

dense ledge
#

So the games crashed with expo off?

#

And what did crystal disk report?

#

Have you tried running games off an external drive?

rugged marlin
#

also running cod mw in safemode is clean

#

no crashes

#

BUT i did make two changes 1. expo ENABLED 2. cod mw on safemode

#

so not sure which is the fix here

#

if its cod on safemode, then what does that indicate?

bold bluff
#

you can see the temp In the bios while you are in windows...

#

so find another thing that can tell you the temp while actually using the pc..

rugged marlin
bold bluff
#

that's not how this works.

#

at all.

rugged marlin
#

it wont cool down much in the 10 sec it takes (i know because ive had cpu overheating issues)

bold bluff
#

it sure can..

rugged marlin
#

trust me thats not the issue

#

also usually with heating you see slow degradation of performance before crashing

#

its not the problem, trust

bold bluff
#

Kay you have fun chasing ghosts becsuse you can't be bothered to open task manager..

#

also no. if you load the cpu and it instantly tjmaxes stuff will just die.

rugged marlin
#

i have solid empircal evidence

#

@bold bluff Look man not saying your wrong

#

im just saying

#

I did two changes

#

and cod runs fine now

#
  1. enabled EXPO
#
  1. ran the game in safemode
#

id rather follow this path

bold bluff
#

usually means a file corrupted and now it's conflicting.

dense ledge
#

7700x doesnt just shit itself at tjmax

rugged marlin
#

its not cpu overheating

#

ive had this issue frequently

bold bluff
#

if it's getting no cooling it will. I understand it's suppose to work at tjmax but if it's getting no cooling it will kill whatever load is causing the cpu to overheat.

rugged marlin
#

like i said, CPU overheating has several indicators including general performance degradation once it hits temps. this is not the case

#

very isolated to games suddenly crashing

bold bluff
#

then your software is conflicting and dying because of it. if safe mode worked it's because it only starts what is 100% needed for x thing to run.

#

also make sure defender isn't Killin processes because you take to long to hit "allow" through the firewall.

rugged marlin
#

So far it looks like enabling EXPO was the fix

#

although @dense ledge you think this couldnt be it?

dense ledge
#

no

#

cod isn't memory sensitive

#

try the other games

bold bluff
#

I'd be concerned that it running at a higher speed somehow solved a stability problem compared to it running at a lower speed..

dense ledge
#

the problem with that theory is EXPO is technically overclocking

bold bluff
#

no I get that but without it on it was running at 5600 or whatever jadec is for that kit instead of 6000 or whatever and wasn't working. now they turned expo on and it running faster its now running.. should for sure 99.9% of the time be the other way around.

rugged marlin
#

going to try some fall guys in a min, will report back

I have similar issue with gaming, after random amount of time screen goes black and I lose Radeon driver ...have to reload driver...it's really annoying. I also have flare ram...nothing over clocked. I am beginning to think it's this flare ram being shit.

dense ledge
#

its probably your gpu

#

@karmic tartan @timber fern

timber fern
#

could still be the ram if installed in the wrong slots

#

would usually show errors in a better memory test than the windows test

dense ledge
void forge
dense ledge
#

itd probably be your drivers… when the display craps out does adrenalin crash and you have to relaunch it or what happens?

void forge
#

also....i have an actual "error" thread in this tech support forum

dense ledge
#

whats the error

timber fern
#

could also be corrupted windows because of a memory error fixed by turning off expo

#

could be a bad ssd also

#

i would do a DISM scan and sfc scannow

#

but with expo off

#

if there are no windows errors found, then it may just be the gpu is faulty

karmic tartan
#

"Fresh windows install"

#

Fuckin update windows

#

Update restart update restart update restart and then maybe DDU reinstall GPU drivers

#

A fresh windows install is never fully updated unless you restored from previous

#

Working but ill check later

void forge
# karmic tartan "Fresh windows install"

lol not sure if.you are talking to me but I have tried literally everything you listed there. I did however pull the Radeon GPU out and installed a 3060xc and the problem has not returned.

karmic tartan
#

Update again and just make sure it isn't showing anything then run dism steps as gran mentioned

#

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

#

Er, well whoever the thread was for?

#

Daheck I just realized.
