I've never seen this.
Was playing the Way finder beta and after like an hour game crashed and appear to have lost amd driver. Is this likely due to beta game or just shit Radeon driver?

cosmic warren
#

check which driver its using inside device manager

dull otter
#

I had to reinstall Radeon driver. Tried loading the game again and got the same result after about 5 min. Now trying to get driver installed again lol. Guess I'm done with that beta.

Oh man, I know this problem and it’s going to be a bitch to tackle

#

I’m going to hope and guess you recently updated windows which created a driver conflict between windows igpu driver and your graphics card driver. The easiest fix would be to roll back to a point before the windows update using system restore, then if your system has no issues disable the igpu driver from updating itself, so change the windows update settings in the Local group policy editor.

@haughty wharf I did steps 1 and 3 in this guy's tips. So far it's okay but I'm getting to that point where you just stop holding your breath lol. I played Hogwarts for about twenty minutes without any issues but didn't bother playing the Wayfinder Beta anymore.

I feel like this is because the cpu has graphics built in. This is the first cpu I have ever had with integrated graphics. I have never had this kind of issue on any other machine. OR maybe this damn Windows 11 has a more aggressive approach than Win 10 did?

All I know is so far I am not having the most exciting experience with AM5 and Win 11 so far...kind of a kick in the teeth after spending another $2000 on this already expensive machine lol.

Over the past few months, my Windows PC has developed an annoying issue. Sometimes when I boot up, I launch a game or video editing program... and get hit by

dull otter
dull otter
#

still having issues with Radeon driver just dying...so annoying.

haughty wharf
#

Damn, and I was hoping the fix would be easy for once

dull otter
#

No, it's so damn random and I've tried everything...I'm prettys sure I've worn out DDU.
So damn frustrating.

haughty wharf
#

Is it switching to the igpu?

dull otter
#

I have played for 5 hours and not problems...the. sudden ly.it has issues. then 2 hours no problems.....then 20 min...

#

no it is not switching, iGpu is disabled....it's doing Radeon driver and reverting to a default windows driver or some crap

haughty wharf
#

That message still comes up?

dull otter
#

so then I have to reinstall and start all over.

#

no I don't get that message anymore.

haughty wharf
#

So when it switches while gaming what happens exactly

dull otter
#

Ialso have the GPU left at default settings and still.

#

The screen goes black.

#

Then it looks like it is reverting the display driver or something because I have to do a reset on machine and when it's back up....adrenaline software and driver is gone....and I have to reinstall.

#

What are the chances that this flare ram is just junk?

haughty wharf
#

What brand of 7900 xtx?

dull otter
#

sapphire

#

nitro

haughty wharf
#

Ram would not cause this issue considering it’s occurred for others with completely different setups

dull otter
#

when gaming thisachine uses so little resources it's crazy..

#

like 60% GPU most the time and 1%cpu...very little VRAM etc...nothing is ever hot.

haughty wharf
#

Idk about 1% cpu but the other values can be normal depending on the game you’re playing

#

Are you using hw monitor for those values?

dull otter
#

today it's Diablo 4

#

hw monitor and the adrenalin software readouts.

haughty wharf
#

Yeah I don’t expect that game to pull much tbh

#

Especially on the hardware you have

dull otter
#

just don't understand how it can be fine for hours and then out of no where it's dumb....then it's fine....then it's doing it's shit again.

haughty wharf
#

You’re on windows 11 right

dull otter
#

yes.

#

I did order a trident z5 ram kit to try and see if I have the same issues.

haughty wharf
#

Yeah it’s the exact same reoccurring problem. Could you go into event viewer and see what events you got before the latest crash

dull otter
#

I can go into event viewer but honestly I wouldn't know what to look for

haughty wharf
#

Hmmm, I would need a custom view for administrative events

dull otter
haughty wharf
#

Oh awesome, do you know what time the last crash was on

dull otter
#

like within last 15 min...lol

#

i mean it probably wouldnt be hard to reproduce lol

#

All this crap started again today....and I had been gaming in both Tower of Fantasy and D4 all day yesterday with zero issues

haughty wharf
#

Did nothing change between yesterday and today? Any updates?

dull otter
#

nothing changed.

#

after this happening a few times i decided to go and set ram overclocking back to default...as in disabled Expo becuase i thought that might be the issue....but nope. it still happens

haughty wharf
#

I’m telling you the ram is probably not the issue. Like 99% sure

dull otter
#

okay

#

So what do you think it is?

haughty wharf
#

I’m almost certain you could switch to windows 10 and fix this but I want to see if I can fix it on windows 11

haughty wharf
dull otter
#

yeah i have never had an issue on win 10

#

really?

#

So basically my $1200 gpu is damn near worthless to me in win 11 lol thats nice

haughty wharf
#

We’re you able to find the events in event viewer?

dull otter
#

what events? sorry when it comes to this events thing i dont even know what to look for

haughty wharf
#

Yeah Id have to view your screen to make it easy tbh. Also reading up on this problem again

dull otter
#

So, there is a chance that to get past this i can maybe just install windows 10?

haughty wharf
#

hold up reading something just to be sure but yes, more then likely. There's also something I want to try but that'll be in a moment. Doubt it'll work but just to check my boxes

#

okay I think I'm ready for what we're going to try.

dull otter
#

okay

#

Also if you want to go into a audio room we can do that as well

haughty wharf
#

I'm in there now

dull otter
#

now this happened when I tried to reser machine

haughty wharf
#

Yes! Hard error codes, I can work with this when I get back

haughty wharf
dull otter
dull otter
#

So far everything is working fine with the Nvidia GPU. So if whatever your next attempt at a solution is doesn't work...them I think I'm going back to an Nvdia GPU. This is sad. a $1200 GPU I can't even return lol.

dull otter
#

so far this isy new solution.

dull otter
#

I am sendig the Sapphire card back to new egg for an exchange...i cant refund it but i can exchange it...maybe ill just sell it or just hold on to it for when windows and radeon get along one day.

haughty wharf
#

Yeah I just got back.

dull otter
#

I see that. well i guess you can see how i took care of the issue lol

#

game and machine have been running the smoothest its ever ran.

haughty wharf
#

Yup, do you want to still work on it or you’ll just go through with the exchange?

#

Ebay is also an alternative if you want your money back for the most part.

dull otter
#

im just doing the exchange...should end up with a new card and ill likely just sell the damn thing if i dont here of a resolution to the issue in the near future

#

I find it so weird that its a 7900xtx and windows issue.

haughty wharf
#

Wait what are you exchanging for?

dull otter
#

litereally just exchanging it for the exact card...i just want a new unopened card so if i do decide to sell...it may have a little better value

dull otter
#

newegg will not let me do a refund but apparently can do an exchange lol

haughty wharf
# dull otter I find it so weird that its a 7900xtx and windows issue.

Back in the day I had an rx 380 and when dark souls 3 released it was unplayable with amd drivers for almost 4 months. It sucks but stuff like that happens. At the very least your issue has been around for a few weeks so I’m sure a fix is being worked on but yeah. Only hard fix I can think of is switching to windows 10 but it’s not a guarantee

dull otter
haughty wharf
#

I completely understand

dull otter
#

This thing performs much like a 6900xt and some areas better. So i guess it will do for a while.

haughty wharf
#

Wait hold up you still have a 6900xt right?

dull otter
#

yes its in my work workstation i use for my business.

haughty wharf
#

Oh okay I was gonna say use that. That is far better then a 3060

dull otter
#

The thing i am liking about Nvdia card that i notices right away is....absoletly zero screen flicker at all....every damn radeon build i do....has screen flicker....like a refresh rate or sync issue...its very slight but its noticeable

haughty wharf
#

What monitor you got?

#

And refresh rate?

dull otter
#

gigabyte 34" ultrawide with 144 hz

haughty wharf
#

Freesync or gsync?

dull otter
#

but i get that flicker on every monitor

#

its freesync

haughty wharf
#

Oh wait it’s on every monitor, nvm then lol

#

Do you use the same display cable?

dull otter
#

yes...even on my 55" oddyseey and my 32" G5 and another 180p 165hz

#

i have used MANY different cables....to no avail

haughty wharf
#

Wow, that’s absurd

dull otter
#

i swear its a radeon issue

#

i have built like 6 machines this year and they are all radeon and every one of them does it

#

These nvdia cards though....hasnt had the flicker even once.

#

the flicker is also only during gaming, reg desktop apps it is not an issue

#

i have or do have multiple 6700xt cards, a 6800xt card, 6900xt card and this 7900xtx......every one of them does it

haughty wharf
#

I got nothing, Ill have to test some higher end amd cards when I get a chance. Only one I have on hand is an rx 6600 and I’ve never seen that behavior

dull otter
#

well if you were west coast id send you a 7900xtx lol

#

sadly today just showed me that its going to be a long while before i put faith back in amd drivers.

haughty wharf
#

Yeah I’ve had my fun share of experiences with them. Switching to nvidia enlightened me abit but I still love solving software problems with amd drivers. They’re at least far better they used to be

dull otter
#

For sure...and ive had great experience with a lot of cards and machines from them up until this mess. I actually never planned to buy another Nvdia card again....guess i was wrong.

haughty wharf
dull otter
haughty wharf
#

I’ll keep that in mind

dull otter
#

Kind of the least i can do for all your patience and help.

haughty wharf
#

All good man. Like I said love solving pc problems, fun past time for me. Hope everything goes well from here for ya

Downgrade to windows 10?

tulip coral
haughty wharf
#

An update shouldn’t nuke your graphics drivers like that

tulip coral
#

I did that when I was running a 6800 XT it seemed to help

tulip coral
haughty wharf
tulip coral
haughty wharf
#

Yeah mainly windows 11

tulip coral
#

Wow F

haughty wharf
#

Part of the reason I’ve stuck to 10 for so long, I’ve just heard to many varying issues at this point

tulip coral
#

At least he’s running a 7700x so switching back to windows 10 wouldn’t be bad
