Pretty much i convinced my friend to get Omega Strikers so we can play for a bit but after the first game we play he starts playing characters he obviously shouldn't have unlocked yet and when i asked him if he spent any money to unlock those characters, he responded with no. He got the game on PS5. He also said that when he check the shop, it shows that he still has the buy the characters implying he still needs to buy them with the in-game creds but he already has every single character. Sorry for no screenshot, my friend was afraid that he'd get the characters taken away but I was able to convince him that he could unlock them the normal game if the problem fixed in which he agreed. Does your friend have a PS+ subscription? Because if so, then they would all be unlocked for him for free!

Only weird thing is that it still shows that he has to buy the characters in the shop

No worries at all! But I think if he transferred his account to any other platform, then he would have to purchase them again since it's only PS+ that get the striker all unlocked. That's just my theory though
