I think you just explained why herd was added in the first place
Max geared 1v1s were leveling slower than budget aoers even with herd. They had to add another exp buff just to even it out
At this point though they really should just remove herd and increase the 1v1 exp accordingly
I think that somewhat limiting aoe is justified, but the way they did it is horrible.
Instead of increasing the difficulty for pulling massive amounts of monsters, they slowed everything down.
Instead of "herd" reducing your damage, "herd" should INCREASE the monsters stats.
From the 3rd monster onwards, for each additional monster attacking you (n-3), every monster could gain +2% attack power and +1% critical chance.
You fight 28 monsters?
Then every single one of them has +50% attack and +25% crit.
This is obviously just an example and different monsters can (and should) get different bonuses for fighting in a pack.
1v1 skills are nice too on many of classes.
Also even if you are HnR you can easily aoe 10-15mobs all the time. You dont really need to aoe 30+ mobs at once. Its also not as effective because of herd damage reductions and by the time you have gathered 30+ mobs you couldve killed total of20-30 by 10 at time.
doesnt effect your kill time really so much if you keep your aoe's decent size enough. You get diminishing returns by gathering more and more mobs. It takes time to gather em and then takes longer time to kill. You can test it out. Doesnt affect so much grind speed if you keep aoe size on around 10 mobs all the time. Also depends what class you play. Whole aoe problem affect most Elementors since you can keep blinking and gathering more and more mobs. Though even then. You start to do quite low dmg on most mobs with herd nerf. You still kill mobs faster by doing those 10-15ish mob aoes and then quickly get new 10-15ish mobs. Wont affect grind speed at all. Its actually even faster than just getting oversized aoes. Also a lot safer. Same with all other classes too tbh.
edit: also to add. Even with herd nerf. You can still clear out most spawns as ele/psy. You just need to be somewhat geared or do mobs around same level. One point is that you cannot aoe farm full spawn 10lvl higher mobs super easily.
i dont think removing herd-debuff makes sense. it renders aoeing trivial for any class except YJ and ppl would only optimize for 1v1.
but i think it could be weakened. currently the first 8 or 9 mobs take full dmg and tehn each consecutive mob takes 90% of the one before.
i think raising the amount of mobs that take full dmg by 7 is a good compromise.
so 15-16 mobs take full dmg, all additional herded by 90% per mob
