I'm trying to increase my Free Flow immersion right now, so I decided to look for a SOL anime that interests me. The problem is that, to stay fully engaged, I need to at least understand what's happening. With my current comprehension level being so low, I can't do that yet. Would it be a problem if I watch it in my target language first, then re-watch it in my native language? This way, I can stay caught up with the story and remain interested for the next episode.
The issue with watching it in my native language first and then re-watching it in my target language is that I don’t feel as engaged the second time. I tend to get bored since I already know what’s going to happen. Is there a greater benefit to doing it this way that outweighs the boredom and lack of interest?
What I worry about is that if I get into the habit of re-watching in my native language, I might stop pushing myself during the initial viewing in my target language. I could end up relying on the re-watch to resolve ambiguity rather than actively working to understand it the first time.
