<@&1248039856404431062> Resource for Etymology of Japanese Words
Wiktionary sometimes has stuff but its not always 100% accurate
In general it's OK though
Japanese Stackexchange is a great place to ask, as well
I use this site for an etymology of the kanji : https://www.chinese-characters.org/ (it's for chinese charaxcters, but the etymology remains the same of course).
Yes, I'm familiar with this resource, but unfortunately it seems like there isn't etymology information for many/most words.
Thanks this is a great resource that I hadn't thought to use yet!
Thanks this seems like a great resource similar to koohi, but it seems like it doesn't have mnemonics for compound words (like 地下鉄 and 銀行), unless I'm missing something?
Indeed, only single characters are explained.
just go on your favorite search engine and type in (word) + 由来
there's a dictionary for yomitan made from one of these such sites, gogen yurai
for most words it's kind of obvious though and for others it's unclear
I don't think it'll help much in learning though honestly
I couldn't find it in Shoui's Yomitan Dictionary Collection on google drive, where can I find this dict?
it's probably there
if not check here
i found it pretty useless
wow fastest response ever
alright so the second one is the gogen yurai and the first one is from forum posts? Do you know what kind of forum posts? I'll probably need to translate the entries with with a translator, but these should help a lot! Thx
