Hi guys. I’m novice in Japanese. I have a problem with JP1K. I tried for 10 days learn cards. I learning tried to learn 10 cards per day. But it looks like I only brute force them, instead of remembering cards. Because always on review I have 20-30 cards failed. And can’t remember anything. And I don’t know why but it always auto play reading of the kanji.
Also I’m learning in wanikani a few cards in a day, and 10 new words from Learn Japanese From Zero deck.
And I’m doing active immersion in LingQ.
Whole learning process takes 1-2 hours per day.
But I’m feeling really frustrated about my language learning that I can’t remember and procede further. 😢
Thanks in advance for any advice. 🫶🙏

If you're immersing (in comprehensible material), you're progressing. When doing flashcards and stuff like that, it's absolutely expected you'll be forgetting things. Don't worry about it, it doesn't mean you're not making progress. Just keep immersing, focus on that, and having a good time
imo you're doing too much srs. Just doing the 10 new cards in jp1k is fine enough. You can cut out the time you're spending on wanikani and delete that other deck (Japanese from zero). It's just redundant stuff and cutting into time you should be spending in immersion.
Ideally, you should only be spending less than 30 minutes on the jp1k and immersing the rest of the time.
How are you immersing with LingQ? What are you doing exactly? It may be inefficient.
Thanks
I’m watching comprehensible Japanese for complete beginners. And other small easy texts. After each sentence I pause and trying to read and get what was the sentence and translating it to check if I’m wrong or not.
About JP1K. Should I delete it and start again? Because it looks like I learned it wrong. And haven’t tried to remember reading. It looks like I tried to remember only by listening. Is there any way to turn off auto play of the reading front card? Because it doesn’t give me a chance to recall reading of it.
I wanted to end with wanikani after done the free trial. But it looks like it better to switch this time to more immersion.
And for me on this stage I feel like immersion is too complicated for me. Even this content for supper beginners.
Are you talking about the Comprehensible Japanese youtube channel? That content is meant to be understandable without looking up any words or translations. You need to pay attention to the visuals and think about what they are communicating. Pay attention to their gestures. What are they pointing at? What are they drawing? Think about what you are seeing.
You don't need to restart jp1k. Just keep going. And remember that anki isn't a test you need to pass. You don't need to stress about it. Don't trap yourself failing cards over and over again. If you have failed a card once already, just pass it the next time. Get anki over with so you can get to immersion. It's way more important.
There should be a way to turn off autoplay in the settings.
Yeah, the sooner you can stop wasting time on wanikani, the better. And stick with the Comprehensible Japanese. It's as simple as it gets. You will not find anything easier than that. You just need to relax and think about what you're watching instead of worrying about the words.
Thanks. Yes about that Chanel of Yuki-San.
Do you suggest to take 30min max on anki and immerse rest of the time? I did Japanese from zero deck because I’m checking grammar there, and thought it would be beneficial to learn words there too.
And about immersion could you please suggest how to do it better? because I’m really confused from all the terminology of active immersion, free flow and etc. I’m in stage one. 30 days of learning Japanese.
There's a resource for learning Spanish that does a pretty good job of explaining how using comprehensible input works, and it mostly applies to learning Japanese as well if you want a more In-Depth explanation of how to use comprehensible input.
Learn Spanish through good ol' immersion. Spanish comprehensible input for students of every level. Follow our step-by-step roadmap for your learning journey.
Yes, max 30 minutes on anki (but lower is better) and rest of the time you have on immersion. Like everything, you will learn it in immersion. You don't need to be doing extra decks for grammar or vocab.
If you're doing Comprehensible Japanese, there is no way to do it "wrong." You just have to pay attention to the message they're conveying. As for the terminology, the roadmap goes over that, which you were asked to read in the server onboarding.
For grammar, instead of doing an Anki deck, we recommend using the grammar primer
Also, checking out the #tools-starter-pack channel would be helpful for you
Part of it I already saw/read.
Now it’s more clear in which direction to move.
Thanks guys, I’m really appreciate it.
Thanks, forgot to answer.
