<@&1248039856404431062> I've learnt the hirigana, should i learn kanji now or katakana?
Katakana
Learn katakana and then words from a premade.
You don't need to learn kanji separately.
You can download the latest version of the Kaishi 1.5k deck here. Download the .apkg file and import it into Anki.
This video is a good summary of why we don't recommend studying kanji by itself: https://youtu.be/exkXaVYvb68?si=9rdX070TDFlT1-6q
Learners of Japanese often concentrate too much on studying kanjis and their readings, which doesn't really help much with reading. This video will demonstrate you why you should spend your time on something more useful.

thanks everyone, a great repsonse. I was worried i'd get a response of people being annoyed that it was a common quesiton or something but instead i've got some great answers really quickly
Learn katakana, then download the kaishi deck above and also the official Anki app from here #tools-starter-pack
It's fine. We deal with common questions all the time. It's gone past the point where it's annoying. We just answer them anyways. /s
Nah, but on a serious note, feel free to ask any question you'd like.
and RTK? i've heard it mentioned many times, is that recomended too?
We'll gladly answer, lmao.
RTK isn't really recommended cuz fo how time consuming it is.
You can just learn to recognise and read words and you'll learn kanji from that.
No, watch the video above for a quick summary why
oh thanks
can i ask also, do you create pnemonics or anything when learning the kanji like what you would have done when learning the kana?
Nope.
Just use an anki deck, get them in your head, and see them in immersion.
Fuck mnemonics.
You can create mnemonics for words as you learn them. A lot of people do when they're still beginners. But you don't have to. Don't try to force yourself to do it if it's a pain.
Again, we learn words, not kanji. By learning words, kanji comes naturally.
im gonna continue learning mnemonics for kanji because otherwise they simply don’t stick well for me
