So I've started grading my anki on reading on top of meaning now that I've become decent at recalling meaning alone. But I am thinking how strict I should be - 100% accurate on the kana reading? Or a little leeway like 態度 -> ていど instead of たいど
I suppose imposing 100% accuracy requirement from the start would lead best results in the long run but it is annoying getting so close and still having to fail the review, unlike with meaning where the translation isn't exact

I would aim for 100% exact. There are a lot of words in Japanese that are different by just one hiragana, or the difference between including or not including a small っ or お vs おう
For example, ていど and たいど are actually two different words with different meanings (程度 and 態度).
I know it increases reviews in the short term, but it's worth it.
To help you get through the period of increased reviews, you can lower your new cards per day, or stop doing new cards per day for a while, and you can also try to not finish all of your reviews, but just set it to a limited amount of time like 10 or 20 minutes, and after that call it quits for the day.
