Should I fail or press hard if I mispronounced the pitch accent?

You should never be using the Hard or Easy buttons, to get that out of the way first. Unless you are using the new FSRS algorithm for Anki.

For the actual question, if you're 2a, no. You have too much to worry about already to be worrying about grading on pitch accent or trying to produce it correctly.

In stage 1, the focus was to just get into an immersion habit and start priming your brain on the meanings of the most common vocabulary and getting an idea of the most common grammar concepts in the language.

In 2a, that is when you start sentence mining and grading cards on the readings in addition to the meaning. That's already enough new information to deal with. There's no reason to try adding pitch accent into the mix.

That being said, you can certainly study pitch accent and prime yourself the same way you do for vocabulary and grammar. Watch videos talking about and explaining pitch accent, do some minimal pairs training on kotu.io, and just listen for it in immersion.

But until you have heard enough of the language to know what it's supposed to sound like, and developed perception of pitch accent in the first place, trying to pronounce it or reproduce it out loud isn't going to be that useful. Because you're more than likely not going to be able to hear where you're going wrong anyway.

off topic, but have you had any problems with FSRS? when, after studying Anki in Ankidroid, I synchronize it from Anki to the PC, the FSRS settings disappearMikasaNotLikeThis

# viscid moss thanks for your reply! I've been studying Japanese for about six months with ref...

Gotcha. I would consider evaluating yourself for 2b. You're more than likely already there. It's just a matter of watching an episode of a show you've never seen before and recognizing at least half the words being used. You can use Japanese subtitles and pause, but you aren't supposed to look any words up.

If you're 2b, I would just practice the minimal pairs test on kotu.io until you can get a good percentage correct. If you can do that, you can safely assume you have a good perception of pitch accent. CocoaThumbsUp

Good to hear you're already using FSRS. I've never used it so I can't help with the syncing issue. I would search #1028069532893466664 to see if someone else has had the same issue. If not, just make a new post asking about it.

Not sure what question you're asking about mature cards.
