#Is my retention rate too low ?

When I first started doing Anki I read that my number of daily review will end being about 7 times my number of new cards per day. I do 10 new cards per day but my number of daily review is well above 70 (it's usually between 90 - 100, sometimes above) and keeps rising, which is what's worrying me. Is me retention rate too low ? If yes what should I do ?

Also I usually watch 2-4 episodes per day of some anime.

Here are my Anki stats:

Looking at your stats, everything seems fine. The 7x thing is an average, but lots of people get to that 100 number you’re experiencing. It’s possible that more immersion might lower it a little bit, but right now your mature retention rate is 91% which is great. Where you seem to be gaining most of your daily reviews (and have the worst retention) is learning cards. Ideally, you want to have no more than 2x your new cards in the initial learning stage. Your stats says you did 32 today, which means you learned 10 new cards and had 20 from the past 2 days you kept failing. Without these, you’ll only have a 40-60 reviews judging by your forecast chart.

Ohh that's reassuring! It just feel like that my review suddenly rose quit a bit but knowing it's normal is nice. Thank you

You have a few ways you can try to fix the review load—decrease new cards until you learn enough new words to be a little better at recalling meaning, increase your immersion time to see the words more often (with TL subs on), or micro stepping. Micro stepping modifies the conventional learning stage intervals to improve that initial retention, at the cost of a little more Anki time. You can read about it here:

You’re looking for the section titled Deck Options: Learning Steps. He also explains another learning interval style, but I don’t think it will help your current problem and your mature retention doesn’t justify using it right now.

It seems interesting. As of right now anki isn't too much of a problem for me, I just don't want it to take too much of my immersion time, so I think not gonna change much like you advise. Unless I have more reviews in the future. Thanks!

One thing that made anki infinitely easier for me was reading. It might not be for everyone, especially in the early stages, but it makes a massive difference. Just thought I'd mention it since it looks like your mainly watching anime.

What kind of things did you read ? Right know I understand mostly through listening so I feel like reading would be very hard and not comprehensible
