If I know the meaning of the word but not the reading, is it a pass or a fail?
Like, 開くcame up, I instantly could tell that it means (to open), but couldn't remember the reading at all.
I'm a beginner, I use the Core2.3k.

Pass it. The first 1k are so common the reading will come later, and it’ll make Anki much less painful in the beginning. I genuinely only figured out when to use which reading for that specific word (ひら/あ) the other day. You shouldn’t worry yourself with it in stage 1.
