Is it ok to mainly immerse without any subtitles, or is there important benefits from using them.

It is okay, but there are benefits. Early on, subtitles are one of the best ways to get exposure to reading - you have audio of the text right there to go along with it.
If your immersion is mostly unsubbed though your listening will improve.

I think if you split your time between reading and listning, it's fine. However, if your not reading as much subs will help you retain the words you're learning much better.
