Pitch accent

I just recently started to look into pitch accent and Im a little overwhelmed. I looked at the resources with Dogen and kotsu , an intro to pitch accent, the pitch accent guru but Im a little lost. Why would you need to train your ear when you can just start learning the pitch for vocab words? Are there any solid pitch accent dictionaries that are easy to read? Is there a routine I can go by to help? Or should I just drill the individual words of anki?
