Hello, I am trying to edit the JP1K deck so that there is no furigana above the word on the front page, as I feel that I am sometimes using the furigana itself as a prompt to remember the meaning, which I dont think will be very useful. I would still like the audio to play, just to remove the furigana. Are there any people who know how to do this? thanks!

Can you go into the card settings in Anki and edit what fields you want to show on the front? Is furigana a separate field do you know in that deck? I haven't used the jp1k
Go tools -> manage note types
Find the jp1k and click on the cards option
You can edit what appears on the front/back of the card hear, if furigana is in a separate field you can just delete it on the side here that says front and you should be able to do what you want
Hey Luke, thanks for the response, my main problem is that I can’t understand where in the code for the deck the furigana is put into the card, as the code is moderately complicated for this deck
If you're on the deck on PC can you press b I think to bring up the card editor and take a picture of what fields are there please so I can have a look?
@crude warren or can you send me the 1k deck to look at so I can help? I am not a patron but I am passed 1k words anyway and know most the characters from Chinese so never bothered to buy it
and this correlates to the following steps:
Front
back
and I want to simply remove the furigana on the front of the card
🙂
sorry what I was referring to is this:
the code on the front of the card is just saying what fields it wants to display on the front with some styling added, so I need to see what is actually in each field in this deck to know which one to remove if that makes sense
Or I will probably tell you to remove the wrong one
ah got you, didnt know you could see that - here
.
looks like it might be the same
or maybe the word with reading is just the reading and then word audio at the bottom should sta
By default there is no furigana on the front of the card
If you are seeing furigana on the front, check and see if you have the migaku card edit addon
Wait, according to your screenshots you don't have furigana on front till you click "show reading"
Once you "show reading" the furigana most definitely is fine to use to promt meaning.
I personally recommend against trying to alter the deck.
I'm happy to discuss with you why if you have questions.
Yeah that would be helpful, as from my perspective, I will very rarely have to recall a word from using furigana, it will almost always be Kanji and audio if I am using subs
This deck is designed for a specific purpose, though. It's designed to get you used to kanji and start seeing kanji as individual characters without hindering early vocabulary building, which is vastly more important for 99.9999% of cases.
I feel you might also overestimate the role of the SRS (as almost all people new to immersion and acquisition learning do). it's a supplement. you will solidify these things in immerison, not in the SRS. the SRS just gets the memory started. It's
when a memory is first getting started, having more things to trigger that memory can be useful
if you really want to challange yourself more before lookign at the furigana just look away from the screen and try it with the audio first
then if you fail, rely on the furigana
i do this sometimes. but i never mark myself wrong if i cant get it. because the SRS is not where the magic happens. i try and just get some memories going in the SRS lightly to help prime them for immersion
putting too much reliance on the SRS, IMO, is missguided and that time is better spent in immersion
this makes sense, I will take your word for it. Thanks for the help!
