#If someone were a beginner and they wouldn't mind the frustration, can they tackle hard content?

I'd say go for it
But maybe try and do it more intensively so allocate a smaller time slot, probably less than 1 hour) and look up everything.then could be a good idea to mix up with easier content
Yeah that's fair. Maybe if they are super motivated they can do it for longer but for me whenever I do things really intensively, past an hour I start to get really tired and lose focus/enjoyment. That's the only reason I said that, but if they have the mental energy no reason they could do longer I guess.
Could also try the pomodoro technique or the like
Trying content that's too hard isn't harmful and it's not dangerous by itself. I would just encourage them to have a plan for managing failure.
If you're pushing hard enough you're gonna get your butt kicked at least some of the time. Your ability to feel good about it, maintain motivation, adjust is what actually ends up counting in the long run.
Would i personally do it? No. Would it hurt your Japanese in anyway? No. The reason why i personally wouldn't do it is because the gains you'd get on a LN/VN that is way above your level is quite small. It'll just be frustrating and annoying. However, lets say that your deadset on reading fate stay/night. Then at that point in time id say go for it, but prime your brain to understand that this particular session is going to excruciatingly painful and (potentially) not fun.
