this happened randomly all of a sudden after me not having launched obs for quite a while. no matter what fps i record in (240/360/480) the video is incredibly choppy and obs seems to be skipping more than half the frames. All my drivers are up to date, ive reinstalled latest obs, deleted my preferences and got free space on my disk
#GPU rendering gives choppy/laggy renders

i cant figure this out
is it just windows breaking and i have to reinstall?
(this was recorded in 480)
use av1
svt or aom
Use NVENC H264, set profile to baseline, disable adaptive quantization and look-ahead, set tuning to high quality, and set b frames to 0
The issue is the settings, not the codec/encoder
av1 usually works better with high fps recordings for me
av1 nor these settings helped :/
ive also been running more or less these settings for the past few years
and its always been fine
just now it randomly broke
update your drivers
all are latest
are you getting 480+ fps consistently in the game you're recording
may I ask what's ur PC specs
as I'm using same settings as you
Send screenshots of the new settings
And also make sure you’re actually skipping frames (stats dock should show high % encoding or rendering lag)
Try a few different media players
mpvnet, VLC
And disable preview in OBS
i7 14700kf and the 4070
with av1 i couldnt even record in 360
had 99% skipped frames
and svt av1 crashed obs
What resolution are you recording in?
And is anything else using your GPU encoder? Medal, NVIDIA replay, etc
1920x1080
nothing else is using my gpu either really
all replays disabled
not really
ive looked into it
im pretty sure its something that has to do with rendering
obs seems to be recording fine
but that would make no sense as ive been using the same presets for years atp
both vegas and smoothie give me chopped/laggy renders
with a ton of frames missing
ive even clean reinstalled windows from pendrive
still happens
for smoothie i just use the default preset @ 30fps
ye i made sure recordings are fine its a rendering issue smh
GPU rendering gives choppy renders
GPU rendering gives choppy/laggy renders
I'm curious as to how you managed to see it as an obs issue
just like
blissful ignorance

Yeah
Please don’t give numbers like “99% skipped frames” if they’re not coming from somewhere
Specifically OBS’s stats dock
Go frame-by-frame and make sure it’s actually skipping frames
Or upload the renders to yt and link them
sry
thought if both vegas and smoothie rendered the same it had to have been obs
ill make sure everythings correct when im home
twin
but you didnt think to check the original clip
😭
