Been considering getting a C:S game, but not sure whether I should get the first or second. I've seen recommendations for both, but if I had to get one, which would you recommend, 1 or 2?

P.S. this would be my first city builder game - played a few factory builders and space economy games, but want to expand into city builders as well, since it seems like it has the best of both worlds

I think for your first game, CS2. It's more beginner friendly, road tools are easier, tutorial makes more sense, etc. CS1 offers a LOT more customization, though. Like, exponentially more. Sometimes so much that it becomes overwhelming. CS2 is a lovely game that's super cool and easy to mod (unofficially), too. The only downside to CS2 is that there's a little less community support- not that the people who play aren't amazing, there's just not the YEARS of accumulated data. I still think CS2 is the good choice, beginner friendly, pretty, fun, you can really enjoy it your way, and it's pretty forgiving.

I would recommend CS2 due to the fact that there are a ton of new features and improved technology

Yea cs2 has easier road building tools and when paradox mods comes out many cs mods will stop getting supported

If you want to play RIGHT now with the most content and best value CS1 is better, but looking forward CS2 will be better than it(it already is better if we dont consider mods and assets)

cs1 has better mods and steam content, cs2 is newer and the base game in cs2 is better, depends on your style. i personally prefer cs1

CS1 requires less system resources tho, so if you're stuck with a potato PC then go CS1, theres a lot of mods out there that significantly improve your player experience.

I own both games, played C:S1 since it came out. I always loved CS1 because of all the mods, props, and assets available - it makes it easy to create almost anything you want. It is because of this that I descided to postpone my CS2 experience for now and return to CS1 for the time being.

However, I would say buy CS2: It will probably still take quite soe time before CS2 reaches the same level of mods, props, and assets available, but once they are, I'm pretty sure CS2 might be even better than CS1. Just know that for now, CS2 still lacks this vast inventory of community uploads, which basically are the key to making the game enjoyable imho.
