In this game, planning is key. One place buildings here only to see (game)years later whether that placement was accurate or not.
So I cannot find where to place my industries. It looks to me that the rquirements for an industry zone are insane and I cannot manage to figure out the best placements. So how do you determine the most accurate place for your specialized industries and unique factories ?

I am pretty good at making it prosper (calculating which plants and factories to cluster, warehouses, etc..) though. That's not the problem. Problem remains the planning.

I think mostly the idea is:

  • have only one industry area for each resource (i.e. don't have multiple forest areas or multiple farm areas)
  • ensure your industry areas are close to highways (and also preferably trains or ship connections)
#

the rest isn't really too important, as long as you have warehouses or storage that has the material the buildings want to use. That gives a good buffer, so buildings don't run out of things while the trucks are on their way

If you're playing modded you can get a mod that lets you add and remove natural resource anywhere on the map

#

in that case you can just put the resources wherever you think the industry would fit nicely

No, it's actual surfaces. BloodyPenguin effectively took the map editor terraforming tools and made them available in-game.

#

So Surface Painter literally is terrain surface painting lol.

Cause pavement paint does cover dirt roads but they still function as dirt roads
