I cant understand this in English either due to my dyslexia though it is making it hard to understand when to use it in Korean even more so!

I know if it ends in a vowel you use '가' and if a consonant its '이', though I am can not understand when you use it and when you dont. I am working through Lingodeer lessons I cant see the 'reason' why you sometimes use it and sometimes dont. It says on my app 'indicate what the subject of an action (verb) is. Though that doesnt help me 'understand', can anyone put it in another way for me please?

did you do sentence diagraming in school ?

eager finch
#

I dont recall it was a long time ago

swift juniper
#

its what is being described in the sentence

#

like '그 영화가 좋아요'

#

movie is being described so its the subject and hence gets the subject particle

eager finch
#

so how come when you say something like that is an apple.. you dont put it?

swift juniper
#

it depends on the verb

eager finch
#

so.. rather then being directly about the apple.. (When you dont put it).. it is if your talking ABOUT the apple?

swift juniper
#

no

#

like 사과가 많이 있어요

#

I have a lot of apples

#

있다 isn't an action verb so it gets 이/가

#

가과를 좋아해요

#

I like apples

#

좋아하다 is an action verb so it gets 를/을

eager finch
#

I havent learn those latter ones yet

swift juniper
#

hmm

#

prolly dont worry too much about it until you learn 을/를 and 은/는

eager finch
#

I would use the hangul but it means using my onscreen keyboard and its slow

#

un/nun I have gone through

#

its the 'oi' 'ga' I have trouble with

swift juniper
#

you mainly use them to denote what a descriptive verb is describing

eager finch
#

so if you were talking about a shiny apple, its denote the apple being the thing that is shiny?

swift juniper
#

yeah

eager finch
#

so 'Is that a korean newspaper' you add it to the newspaper 'oi'

#

?

#

as its about the newspaper being korean?

swift juniper
#

no you just attach 이다 directly to the noun

#

in that case

eager finch
#

ahh havent done ' i da' yet

#

Iw ill just go through a few lessons , it may sink in with a few more examples lol

swift juniper
#

yeah definitly learn more before worrying too much about it XD

#

its something that just kinda falls into place when you learn/practice more

eager finch
#

fair enough.. I know where to put them in english.. I just dont understand 'why' lol

#

maybe the same will happen here

#

thank you for your help thoguh 🙂

swift juniper
#

we dont really have them in english

#

keep in mind korean and english are totally disconnected

#

its best to start from scratch so to say

eager finch
#

I mean the action, verb thing

#

the stucture of the sentance and grammer
