I had planned for a P2P offline battle system. I want to do PvE at some point too, but as Naca said, haven't put too much thought into it yet.
We are limited to the graphics from the DIMs, so we might be able to do some large sprites, or make the mechanics more interesting, but we won't be able to have more detailed sprites like the old app did.
I plan to fix this eventually, but it's been a busy summer for me trying to save Faerun š

I wasn't referring to detailed sprites. I was talking about the battle animations that the original app had. I don't know how the app functions, but as we are importing the original app apk, technically we should be able to extract the original app's battle graphics right? I don't think Bandai would have removed it from the app assets, they just disabled the online servers I believe.
they are there, but they are not as accessible as we'd like, since they are built for unity, and we'd need a lot of work to extract the pngs

This is theoretically possible, but if any of us knew how to get to these assets easily, we would have done it already instead of requiring DIM imports. I would love to see this happen in the future, but I'm unlikely to put in the time to figure out how to extract the unity assets from the APK. There are other things that to me take priority.
If somebody else wanted to figure that part out for us, I'd happily make use of a library or contributions from another dev
it's a little weird to be able to actually see them. i've been able to extract the sprites from the .apk using a combo of AssetRipper and UABE. it's a manual process though and i'm not sure how it could be automated.
i can document the process i've used.
extract the vb arena .apk file like you would a normal .zip file.
this will open into a few more .apk files named these:
-com.bandai.vitalbraceletarena.apk
-config.armeabi_v7a.apk
-UnityDataAssetPack.apk
extract those like a .zip file as well into their own folders.
open UABE, click file > open file:
path to this folder: VITAL BRACELET ARENA_2.1.0\com.bandai.vitalbraceletarena\assets\bin\Data
select sharedassets0.assets.split0 through sharedassets0.assets.split96
this will prompt and ask you if you want to combine the .split files
the new combined sharedassets files can be opened with assetripper and you can click through to see the sprites:
there are a few other sharedassets in VITAL BRACELET ARENA_2.1.0\UnityDataAssetPack\assets\bin\Data that also need to be combined with UABE before they can be opened in assetripper
sharedassets3 has a TON of variety.
oh all the UABE stuff is redudant actually. assetripper can just open the split files.

Great work here. Just a reminder: the Digimon Link can be used to test if the VH VB works on VB Helper. The NFC logic is the same as the stock VH, which is why itās fully compatible with Arena. So if the VH can transfer back and forth to the VB Helper, the Digimon Link will too and vice versa.
What is digimon link? Don't think I've heard of that project before

as in, it does a check card, then a check card install and then sends the card? or is it just two steps and done

All seems functional on the VB to App front, some oddities with the character menu height though
Trying to send things back doesn't seem to work though - only seems to throw up "Whoops" bubbles on the app and FAIL on the VB (though it at least acknowledges card checks)

For original DiMs yes. Arena does the same thing when you're in the DiM section of the app. For the BE they axed a step so it was a 2 step process

I was able to import mons just fine with a VH/DLink but it seems like after successfully Sending card back to the bracelet, it throws errors on both ends during Writing character

there's no tutorials for vital bracelet arena specifically, but it's a unity game so normal decompilation tools for unity games work.
something like the original devices' predetermined battles playing out on both ends would be fine enough
digimon link let's you train your digimon and change their stats but i'm not sure how viable it would be for the app to keep track of that š¤
Feel this and VitalWear ain't gonna acknowledge Digimon Link's features any time soon, not without a word in from Munch
if they use the app reserved slots in the communication, i can store them in the DB and recover them

crash logs have to be obtained using external software, i'll see if i can add a crash handler in the app

Its a shame we cant add extra information such as a name tag for the customs. Even adding modded to an offical one for updated roster or template swap would make it easier to track.

Im not sure if thats correct as Cyanic has helped with a custom ID for at least one DIM (The one with the Hedgehog Mon I forget its name or the User who made it).
But the Dim Modifier tool does require a DIM to use as a base so it just grabs the ID from that, maybe if the tool was modified to add something to let systems like this know it as a modified ID rather than Stock?

i could use app reserved slots in the watch to keep inside the watch an in-app dim id

so ive just downloaded this to test it out, and sending a character to app works but when i try to send back to bracelet it give a little 'Dim sent successfully' notifications followed immediatly by a 'Whoops'
this happens the second i touch the ncf reader together
you have to wait until the bracelet says "TOUCH" again
first time it will say sent dim sent successfully and whoops
then when that happens, wait for the bracelet to be ready again
and then touch again
hold it until the app says sent character successfully

how this works:
- when you scan a character for the first time, the app will see how many times is that card repeated in the database. If there are more than one, it will ask you from which card is this character
- when you send back to the app, the app will also send back to the watch a second database ID into the watch, with the card you chose
- next time you send the character to the app, the app will not ask you about the card this character came from

the app forces you to transfer BE trained digimon to the BE and vb trained digimon to the VB
since the BE has a lot of parameters the VB doesn't have
and keeping them around will be a lot more difficult
as of cross transfering, you can transfer a VB digimon to any VB, VH, VBC, Digivice V, so on

the releases are here, but these are for the android app. there's no PC version. all the work that has been done so far has been to support android.
you can "run it on PC" in android studio, but it's the same thing as emulating it on android, the NFC won't work.

pretty much all of it is using the android libraries.
none of it was set up to target multiple platforms.
getting it to run on PC with all the features intact would essentially be rewriting it/porting it

Best thing you can do is to get a prepaid phone with NFC or a very cheap Chinese phone running android 9 or more

About portability I don't know, since it is using Android's built in NFC, you'd have to change them with your NFC library's methods
i'd not accept it tbh, also needs an apple mac and an iPhone, so rather than 99 usd, it's going to 2000 usd
and even then i don't have the knowledge for iOS libraries/programming languages
I would say be careful with this. Iirc Windows has no native NFC libraries, and each NFC scanner is different from each other. I think the closest windows has to NFC APIs is the windows authentication, where it allows an NFC card to be used to login into the OS
But even then, here it just uses smart card
I'd love to see this for PC, so if you end up making progress do let me know too

It's designed to work with official dim cards... Any you can use with a watch should work OK, troubleshooting still happening

Then download vb arena 2.1.0 (if it is an xapk, extract it and then load the APK for com.bandai.vbarena
And finally you will have to dump your dims and bems and add them to the app before transferring any digimon

I accidentally uploaded my guy (after adding the DiM, of course) while trying to send a mission, but I'm not able to get him back out. š When I send him back, I get a "Sent DIM Successfully" message, followed by a "Whoops", and the VB (original) sits at "waiting" for a while without completing the transfer. I assume I'm cooked, but thought I would see if anyone had suggestions.
Suddenly running into this again after sending a mon from the app with a special mission, and then putting it back in the app to check on it
250 vitals in 1 hour, put a bunch of those on a singular digi
All was functional with those (although I wasn't aware they were a one-at-a-time kind of thing), its just that sending back is only now doing the same-old Whoops
I'll charge up the bracelet and set 'em off active before checking again
Ah, sending back another mon (albeit without missions attached) to another VH worked perfectly fine instead of almost immediately going Whoops
Seems only the one with missions on 'em can't budge
Try to not send the same kind over and over
That's something I have to test, haven't tested much
I also tried sending a different one with no missions attached and got it to the point of the VB asking for the DiM card, but it ended up failing when it asked me to tap my phone to it the second time. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, though. Nevertheless, it's pretty cool being able to upload my Digimon, especially the custom ones! When the original app was around I never had a phone with NFC, so this is a new experience for me.
I only managed to get over that by just keeping the bracelet on the phone until the app reacts correctly, although that's not doing anything atm

unfortunately, chances are this won't ever make it to an iPhone. apple requires developers pay a fee to release apps. it also requires a mac computer to develop on (which none of the devs have). it also would need to be rewritten in xcode.

AND u have to completely recode the app in their own proprietary code language, and if something is messed up on the build u essentially have to go back to square 1 and do a bunch of other nonsense.

Question about custom dims
So say I have a custom dim with new sprites made by for example aderek can those be transferred into this new app?
Another question is what if itās a custom dim of a regular dim, like one that canāt really be bought anymore so it was made on the vs memory or whatever.
Feel almost all customs out there may well be on something you yourself don't own, but whatever the case it's still readable

It should run on any android emulator, Genymotion, Bluestacks, Android Studio, etc. The problem you would most definitely run into would be getting the NFC to work. I don't think any of those emulators support NFC, even if you had an adapter or NFC device that connected to your PC. Without NFC capabilities, you can't transfer mons to and from your PC.

DIMs can't be trained on the BE... so if you are sticking with the same DIM, I expect this is something we can make happen
they are the same thing... pp just replaced trophies.
PP evolution requirements on the BE for DIMS match the trophy requirements for the same DIM on a VH.
It's just a question of data format translation... some things might get lost, and some things might be given default or app coded values (like remaining training timer)... but in theory this is doable.
The thing is you would need the dim unlock thing or glitch right?

DIMs work on the BE natively... you don't need to do anything to support DIMs on BE... Just need a way to convert digimon raised on VB or VH to the format that the BE uses to store digimon.
