Version 11 just pushed up, ranged combat, magic spells, lots of fixes, character sheets and saving the game https://taptapdungeon.com/play
Played and finished. It was very fun!
- I split my squad in half to explore. Ended up having 2 units die to the boss 😂
- I like the audio when I select a unit, that's very fun to me.
- I like exploring and inspecting stuff, revealing the map as i go.
- It was super accessible from the browser. i may have not played had it not been so easy. I enjoyed my time 😄
thanks for feedback!
splitting the squad is a totally valid option
should note, all quest design as you can imagine is done in LDTK.
This is awesome. I don't know if there is only one quest or if I did something wrong. But this very nice. Played with my kids
Played from my 'old' samsung. Worked fine
yeah just one quest atm the moment
working on the shop next
then add more dungeons and more parts of the quest
thinking I can make this a demo with 5 levels and maybe add 20-30 more for a cheap payment.
yeah it makes sense. If there is progression in enemies and the story, it can be appealing
lunch time code, add a splash screen
added in a decal layer (love that I can do it at a different resolution in LDTK) to add blood, bones and junk to dungeons
you can maybe add a super simple 'rules' page to explain the icon, the fact you have one attack etc
but super simple
and only optional
maybe available through the setting
the rules are quite straight forward... and you can learn them as you play... but I did not realize there was ranged attack
For me, I had been able to relate my skills from playing games like AdvanceWars/Wargroove to understand the mechanics, so it's relatively simple for me to pick up on how to play. However, I can see how a missing tutorial can impact the initial understanding of what to do, if a player was not used to this kind of gameplay before
yep, tutorial is definitely a must
or possible just a rules page
100 gold for a shortsword!
I forwarded the link to friends of mine (we r in our 40, played /play rpg and board games). I didn't say anything in my message. All three gave good reactions. So good job !
oh wow, thank you
thats very kind
I too am 40s and obsessed with rpg board games
hence the game
build what you love 🙂
realised I wasn't loving the new floor tiles, so re-did them with hand drawn textures instead - much more fitting I think
can buy cards as well as items
added a short tutorial
version 13 of Tap Tap Dungeon released, adds a whole bunch of stuff, polish and a new quest. If you have two minutes see if you can beat it. https://taptapdungeon.com/play
couple of bug fixes and the padding just going up, reload for v15
Played the first mission and i finished without anyone getting hit, much bigger personal improvement 🙂
My strategy was to always make the archer open a door first with everyone huddled outside, to maximize my changes at hitting an enemy
I might try the other missions later

bit of restyle tonight
Bug report if you are not aware
Thanks, I’ll get it in my next sitting 🙂
got that one and tightened up the game a loop a fair bit
Pushed version 21 up, tightens up the game loop a fair bit, adds the restyle and skipping of animations etc - let me know how it goes for you https://taptapdungeon.com/play
Looks great. Minor issues : the move_all does not always move everyone, I sometimes got one or two PC left behind. When the enemies move, the camera centers on their initial position but does not follow movement
Other than that, looks great. More quests and you're good to go
trying to work on art today, tried hiring a pixel artist, its slow and the output isn't good
so tried my hand at it
(the dwarf from heroquest on the right is mine)
tried to keep the same style, but trying to decide if I can bare my own art
don't hate it in game
got those two bugs, thanks for letting me know
maybe you can use a software to turn picture to pixel art. As a basis at least. And then fine tune
I've seen that used on another indie game. It was too obvious (you could recognize Leonardo DC from Gatsby) but it looks great
find a free pic, increase contrast and send it to pixel software. Not perfect. Needs rework. But it can help
its pretty good tho 🙂

I used this one... It's a random pick. Maybe there are others.
I had to increase contrast before sending it to the website. (I would have increased value too - if it was possible from my phone - to get another color for the skin... but it can be done after in your pixelart sfware). Hardest part is to find free pictures. Maybe Dall-E can generate character for you (not directly pixelart It is bad at this)
wdyt?
They are all ok.
You can tell it is not the same style (but I guess you know that). The use of a palette would help. And all three PC on the right have the same eyes (1 light/white pixel only in a dark eye).
If you ask about Ulric. He is fine too, I'd just use sharper contrast / there are too many color shades.
For instance, you could use a sharper light on the noise's line (or a sharper shadow behind the noise).
Same (don't know if this is the upload or your image but...) the pink/shadow on the cheecbone doesn't seem right. 1.Too smooth / too much a gradient (back to the palette comment). 2.I would have shadow behind the cheekbone (and not a blush on the cheebone)
more new art, portraits for all the monsters have been redone too
What are they doing one on top of the other? Note the slight destination marker of the archer.
There is a dangling move that does not complete. It happened only two times in 10 minutes, so I guess it's a race condition?
Ok I easily reproduced the bug in "move all" mode: click on a destination, then rapidly click on another destination while the former move animation is running.
It's still random, but happens quite often
Note that if you engage in combat while in this state, you have a high random chance that none of your foes can move, and ending your turn won't be moving the enemies, thus, freezing the game.
thanks for letting me know
getting a chance to work on it tonight, so I'll clear it up
got it, thanks
thanks to some wonderful bitmap fonts, readability greatly improved and space to support other languages
added translations for french, spanish, portuguese, italian and german in both text and narration voice overs
Nice! How much would you say that adding more languages helps a game? I've heard that it simply reaches more people and that's always great, but i'm curious on your experiences 🙂
on my other project, Tales of Yore, having translation was really important, though its not full, but the translation there also normalises chat messages since its a MMO
this time, I've no idea, I just think of it as a sign of respect, english isn't the only language in the world (even its my native language) and trying to provide it in as many native languages as possible just feels like the "right" thing to do.
Yeah, that makes sense, it's nice to include more people 🙂
new version of Tap Tap Dungeon up at https://taptapdungeon.com/play - includes a 3rd quest, traps, languages, triggers, secret doors and monsters with magic
New version up, v31 - includes 5 quests in 7 languages and lots of bug fixes!
Something of note when i entered the website: I got theses 2 messages but I can otherwise still play the game as normal
Yeah that’s old save file being handled
