Now the question is should I try overclocking it π€
Yes
that is a monster gpu score
absolutely try ocing it
I will be trying it tomorrow π
can you do me a favour? check the maximum voltage your 4070 runs at
in timespy
Will do, give me a sec
Actually a bit busy cutting on a deadline
I'll let you know after 11:59
Heres some other information about it incase you're interested
lmao, good luck on your assignment
if it's 0.985V.... you lucked the fuck out
there's a variant of the 4070 with a much higher vbios voltage limit
and it's so much higher it's enough for ~10-20% more performance to put it near 3080 level
3DMark is scary, makes it sound like a jet engine
Anyways, 0.985V @reef urchin
Oh damn
YOOOO
@fiery narwhal we have another
bro, you can overclock this thing to insane levels
3DMark Time Spy: Legion Slim 7i | 4070 | i9-13900H | 32GB RAM | 2560x1600 screen | 0.985V
decided to update title to make it easier for future searches
How far
bc ben got 14.4k
Damn
I want 0.985v 4070 now
Lenovo replacing my laptop let me annoy them for 4070
Didn't know the existence of GPUs with higher voltage limit.
Is this limited to slim 7 or is a general production update for every 4070 Lenovo?
From the Vbios online that I can see most likely all Lenovo 4070s
So it's only a slim 7 feature, no hope for l5p and others
Uh I didn't say it's slim 7 only
not all 4070s even on slim 7 have 0.985V
only some
i'm sure people here would be comfortable sending vbios files if asked
I think the slim 7s in US tend to be more likely 0.985
It's on techpowerup site
could you drop your vbios rom here pls?
do you know for a fact its the 0,985V one tho
Yeah
hm
Says it at the bottom it's 0.985v
I'd try if it doesn't have it online but I'd rather not have to go through the process π
It's online no worries
no worries yeah youre good
Currently overclockin it
lookin good so far
13457
though I think I can get a little higher
aAAAAAAAND
it crashed
lmao
13561
cpu thermal throttled π©
Sad no undervolting
Computer crashed and burned after 3 3d mark runs so here is the best one I have currently, not that high but ey, it was after 3 runs back to back π€· :
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/41661849
and if I'm going to be dead honest
I suck at overclocking
huh
interesting
cpu score is quite nice
It appears my gpu can't catch up to my cpu
https://www.3dmark.com/compare/spy/41586032/spy/41661849/spy/37649349#
maybe I accidently screwed up a setting somewhere π€
wdym
Run test at 60hz and 800x600
My cpu seems to be slightly out performing the other scores in terms of similiar spec wise, though that also means it's burning itself to ashes temp wise
(Comparing between top two scores that have 4090 + i9-13900H)
Though I might be wrong, dunno
(Middle is mine)
oh, nice
Indeed, until it begins cooking itself to 95C+
I will try that tmr
Is the Reliability voltage limit even defined by the bios? It might be defined by the hardware itself.
Nah it's done via vBios
Just realized
I was accidently limiting the power of my gpu

Got that score on a limited gpu ayo
I have slightly lessened the limit just for this one time, don't want to risk obliterating my gpu to ashes
LETS GOOOOOO
still kinda behind #1 but ey
I will take it
@reef urchin
π©
are you in custom mode with max fans?
try setting your cpu power mode to Balanced instead of Best performance in the w11 menu
Will try to do that π
Should I be running in hybird mode instead of DGPU mode?
no
also wait, what did you mean by w11 menu?
Ohhh, power plan?
right click the battery icon
power and sleep settings
yes
then balanced?
you want the w11 battery screen
oh
not control panel
control panel, set power plan to balanced also
then make your machine custom mode and max everything except cpu temperature limit out (leave this at 97)
noted, give me a few seconds really quickly
Legion balanced mode right?
thats the only balanced mode I see
no, just windows balanced mode
click more plan options
or whatever the drop down is called
max fans defintley
π€
if you do bios update you will hear the true max fans
yeah it doesn't deteriorate so quickly
i wouldnt do it all the time every single day
but trying to get max benchmark is fine
Bios update as in firmware update?
33W?
yes
no
i mean
during the update
itself
it maxes the fans
TRULY maxes the fans
not 4700rpm like in custom mode
that is weird lmao
it turns into a helicopter at that point
during bios update?
its actually deafeningly loud
it is insane
but yeah youre good
just dont do it 24/7
Whats a good setting to put it at if I was to do lets say, an overnight render?
performance mode
thats really it
raise up the back with a stand and youre good
or balanced if you want it quieter
or quiet if you cant sleep with it on lmao
Just gotta phase out the fan noise
k im beginning benchmarking, so far looks stable? (don't know what's considered stable)
its gonna be stable if your overclock was stable
this is just gonna squeeze out last few bits of performance is all
keep an eye on fps and see if theyre notably higher or lower than before
Noted
btw, does doing a drain to 15% then to 100% help with recalibrating the "battery lifespan lost" type of percentage?
I feel like the remaining battery amount on it is a slight bit inaccurate
and I only did a battery calibration once or so
My GE77 still did better

3070ti for the win
Soonβ’οΈ
Now before I ruin the fans, gonna tick it off real quick
back to quiet mode it goes
LOL
give me a sec to send link
surely share the result
hot damn
also, temps were surprisingly cooler than I expected
your cpu score is a bit low... maybe try setting in high performance mode and repeating in a while after its cooled down
ngl, I did technically run 3 3dmark runs before this
guess high performance would work better in this case due to the fact that my cpu isn't exactly reaching the temp limit
my previous cpu score was dominating though no clue what happened there
ayyy nice work!
they had it default
higher compared to 0.925V default
ah
@errant cradle I tried flashing that 0.985V bios onto my 4070. But the reliability voltage is still 0.925V. A months ago i already tried the same thing and it didn't change the reliability voltage either.
Oof
What is your current 3dmark score?
my eyes popped from their sockets at the CPU score until I realized you have HX!
I had uploaded that bios to TPU immediately when I found out my chip went to 985...Peppa tried to flash it and found he already had the same exact BIOS, flashed it anyway and nothing changed
it has to be something else controlling that voltage limit but I have no idea what it is
Good score, better than mine.
How do I check if my voltage limit is 0.985V? @finite egret
load up hwinfo and run a game, then check the maximum GPU voltage
It looks like yes, it does go to .985V. Anything I can do to improve performance if that's the case?
undervolt and/or overclock with MSI afterburner
That would be for the GPU right? The CPU is locked if I'm not mistaken right?
correct on both counts. Even locked, there are some things you can tune on the CPU, but that gets into more hardcore tuning for benchmarks and stuff rather than gaming or day to day use
Ah gotcha, yeah I don't know if I need that but would be interested in getting better performance from the GPU.
I don't know anything about undervolting or over clocking however. I use MSI afterburner to give me the overlay, but that's about it. Are there some simple settings I can try or a guide I can follow?
start with 125 core and 500 memory which should be pretty stable for just about anything. You can go up from there and your only risk is crashes so it depends on your tolerance for failure. Single player game maybe OK but competitive fps maybe you don't want to drop a game due to crash
YouTube also has some videos
Awesome, thanks!
I'll give it a try
I also see an overclock option in the legion toolkit. Is that any different from doing it in afterburner?
Aight spill the beans
I would like to say I no longer know how I managed to get this score π
might just wipe my pc and try it again (since I got this score near stock/bloated)
then slowly change stuff before I screw something up again
rivalry reborn?
