Not bad, no OC, performance mode.

sullen topaz
#

Now the question is should I try overclocking it πŸ€”

arctic kraken
#

Yes

reef urchin
#

absolutely try ocing it

sullen topaz
#

I will be trying it tomorrow πŸ‘

reef urchin
#

in timespy

sullen topaz
#

Will do, give me a sec

reef urchin
#

you don't have to let it run for long

#

just say whether it's 0.925V or 0.985V

sullen topaz
#

Actually a bit busy cutting on a deadline
I'll let you know after 11:59
Heres some other information about it incase you're interested

reef urchin
#

lmao, good luck on your assignment Kekw

#

if it's 0.985V.... you lucked the fuck out

#

there's a variant of the 4070 with a much higher vbios voltage limit

#

and it's so much higher it's enough for ~10-20% more performance to put it near 3080 level

sullen topaz
#

3DMark is scary, makes it sound like a jet engine risitasnervous
Anyways, 0.985V @reef urchin

errant cradle
#

Oh damn

reef urchin
#

@fiery narwhal we have another

#

bro, you can overclock this thing to insane levels

Damn

#

I want 0.985v 4070 now risitascry

#

Lenovo replacing my laptop let me annoy them for 4070

elder forum
#

Didn't know the existence of GPUs with higher voltage limit.
Is this limited to slim 7 or is a general production update for every 4070 Lenovo?

errant cradle

errant cradle
reef urchin
#

not all 4070s even on slim 7 have 0.985V

#

only some

#

i'm sure people here would be comfortable sending vbios files if asked

sullen topaz
#

I think the slim 7s in US tend to be more likely 0.985

errant cradle

errant cradle
#

Yeah

reef urchin
#

hm

errant cradle
#

Says it at the bottom it's 0.985v

reef urchin
#

ooh wow

#

nice

sullen topaz
#

I'd try if it doesn't have it online but I'd rather not have to go through the process πŸ’€

reef urchin
#

no worries yeah youre good

sullen topaz
#

Currently overclockin it

#

lookin good so far

#

13457

#

though I think I can get a little higher

#

aAAAAAAAND

#

it crashed

#

lmao

#

13561

#

cpu thermal throttled 😩

errant cradle
sullen topaz
#

Computer crashed and burned after 3 3d mark runs so here is the best one I have currently, not that high but ey, it was after 3 runs back to back 🀷 :
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/41661849

#

and if I'm going to be dead honest

#

I suck at overclocking

#

huh

#

interesting

#

cpu score is quite nice

#

maybe I accidently screwed up a setting somewhere πŸ€”

errant cradle
sullen topaz
# reef urchin wdym

My cpu seems to be slightly out performing the other scores in terms of similiar spec wise, though that also means it's burning itself to ashes temp wise
(Comparing between top two scores that have 4090 + i9-13900H)

Though I might be wrong, dunno

#

(Middle is mine)

reef urchin
#

oh, nice

sullen topaz
#

Indeed, until it begins cooking itself to 95C+

#

My GE77HX did better

sullen topaz
#

Just realized

#

I was accidently limiting the power of my gpu

#

Got that score on a limited gpu ayo

#

I have slightly lessened the limit just for this one time, don't want to risk obliterating my gpu to ashes risitasnervous

sullen topaz
#

LETS GOOOOOO

#

still kinda behind #1 but ey

#

I will take it

#

@reef urchin

#

😩

reef urchin
#

try setting your cpu power mode to Balanced instead of Best performance in the w11 menu

sullen topaz
#

Will try to do that πŸ‘Œ

sullen topaz
reef urchin
#

no

sullen topaz
#

also wait, what did you mean by w11 menu?

reef urchin
#

well yes

#

but also

sullen topaz
#

w-

#

??

reef urchin
#

right click the battery icon

sullen topaz
#

power and sleep settings

reef urchin
#

yes

sullen topaz
#

then balanced?

reef urchin
#

you want the w11 battery screen

sullen topaz
#

oh

reef urchin
#

not control panel

sullen topaz
#

ok

#

I have set it to balanced

reef urchin
#

control panel, set power plan to balanced also

#

then make your machine custom mode and max everything except cpu temperature limit out (leave this at 97)

sullen topaz
#

noted, give me a few seconds really quickly

sullen topaz
#

thats the only balanced mode I see

reef urchin
#

no, just windows balanced mode

#

click more plan options

#

or whatever the drop down is called

sullen topaz
#

Got it

#

Btw just asking

#

will this obliterate the life span-

reef urchin
#

nah

#

max fans you mean?

sullen topaz
#

max fans defintley

reef urchin
#

bc its actually firmware limited

#

lmao

sullen topaz
#

πŸ€”

reef urchin
#

if you do bios update you will hear the true max fans

sullen topaz
#

o

#

so I should be fine?

reef urchin
#

yeah it doesn't deteriorate so quickly

#

i wouldnt do it all the time every single day

#

but trying to get max benchmark is fine

sullen topaz
#

33W?

reef urchin
#

yes

#

no

#

i mean

#

during the update

#

itself

#

it maxes the fans

#

TRULY maxes the fans

#

not 4700rpm like in custom mode

sullen topaz
#

that is weird lmao

reef urchin
#

nah they do it so idiots like us dont set our machine on fire

#

lmao

sullen topaz
#

it turns into a helicopter at that point risitasnervous

reef urchin
#

during bios update?

#

its actually deafeningly loud

#

it is insane

#

but yeah youre good

#

just dont do it 24/7

sullen topaz
#

Whats a good setting to put it at if I was to do lets say, an overnight render?

reef urchin
#

performance mode

#

thats really it

#

raise up the back with a stand and youre good

#

or balanced if you want it quieter

#

or quiet if you cant sleep with it on lmao

sullen topaz
#

Just gotta phase out the fan noise KEKW

#

k im beginning benchmarking, so far looks stable? (don't know what's considered stable)

reef urchin
#

its gonna be stable if your overclock was stable

#

this is just gonna squeeze out last few bits of performance is all

#

keep an eye on fps and see if theyre notably higher or lower than before

sullen topaz
#

Noted

#

btw, does doing a drain to 15% then to 100% help with recalibrating the "battery lifespan lost" type of percentage?

#

I feel like the remaining battery amount on it is a slight bit inaccurate

#

and I only did a battery calibration once or so

reef urchin
#

why

#

i'm on 22 cycles and have 97

#

if you wanted to you could but its unnecessary

back to quiet mode it goes

reef urchin

sullen topaz
reef urchin
#

hot damn

sullen topaz
#

also, temps were surprisingly cooler than I expected

ancient heron
reef urchin
sullen topaz
#

ngl, I did technically run 3 3dmark runs before this pogomega

reef urchin
#

on my 13700H balanced works better than high performance

#

but idk about 13900H

sullen topaz
#

guess high performance would work better in this case due to the fact that my cpu isn't exactly reaching the temp limit

#

my previous cpu score was dominating though no clue what happened there

ancient heron
#

CPU still destroyed it

#

12800hx for the win

finite egret
reef urchin
#

they had it default

sullen topaz
#

HIGHER?

reef urchin
#

higher compared to 0.925V default

sullen topaz
#

ah

sick nexus
# errant cradle Nah it's done via vBios

@errant cradle I tried flashing that 0.985V bios onto my 4070. But the reliability voltage is still 0.925V. A months ago i already tried the same thing and it didn't change the reliability voltage either.

I had uploaded that bios to TPU immediately when I found out my chip went to 985...Peppa tried to flash it and found he already had the same exact BIOS, flashed it anyway and nothing changed Sadge it has to be something else controlling that voltage limit but I have no idea what it is

granite fox
supple bobcat
#

How do I check if my voltage limit is 0.985V? @finite egret

finite egret
supple bobcat
#

It looks like yes, it does go to .985V. Anything I can do to improve performance if that's the case?

finite egret
#

undervolt and/or overclock with MSI afterburner

supple bobcat
#

That would be for the GPU right? The CPU is locked if I'm not mistaken right?

finite egret
supple bobcat
#

Ah gotcha, yeah I don't know if I need that but would be interested in getting better performance from the GPU.

#

I don't know anything about undervolting or over clocking however. I use MSI afterburner to give me the overlay, but that's about it. Are there some simple settings I can try or a guide I can follow?

finite egret
#

YouTube also has some videos

supple bobcat
#

Awesome, thanks!

#

I'll give it a try

#

I also see an overclock option in the legion toolkit. Is that any different from doing it in afterburner?

I would like to say I no longer know how I managed to get this score πŸ˜‚
might just wipe my pc and try it again (since I got this score near stock/bloated)
then slowly change stuff before I screw something up again
