Model: Legion 5 Pro 16ARH7H Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 82RG

Laptop started boot-looping in the last 24 hrs - noticed that it has crashed a few times in the last week - where I would be doing something mildly intensive (chrome browsing, JetBrains Rider indexing and / or intellisense calculations) and it would just restart - no logs or any errors shown

In the last 24hrs this has got worse to the point where nothing boots at all - I can't even get into the OS now (currently Ubuntu) and I can't boot off the Win 11 USB media either - it does the same thing - starts to load and immediately reboots before any UI is shown (just the spinner spins around once and then black screen before the legion BIOS prompt returns)

I've tried doing an EC reset with the 60 sec powerbutton hold + reset the bios to defaults - any other ideas before I call lenovo in the mornin?

Likely your ssd is borked?

unsure - i would have thought the USB media would at least boot at that point? I think SSD is the only extended test in the uefi diagnostics ive not run yet

#

started that one off at least - it did pass the quick test i did earlier tho

the SSD? yeah so it doesn't really get v far into the boot process before it restarts - not enough to select anything at all

from a linux POV it gets to grub and then falls over after initramfs - on Windows the spinner spins once and thats it - no GUI or text to go on

No the USB media

Ubuntu is on the SSD - Windows is currently on the USB boot media (so non-SSD) and both are showing the issue atm

Wait you install windows externally?

grizzled tree
#

yeah I can choose the USB from the UEFI boot menu

WTF

grizzled tree

#

this is USB install media i should rephrase

can't even get to the point where i can reinstall it - its crashing before that point

Try to go into bios and see if you can restore all settings

#

then see if you can boot

#

next try EC reset

grizzled tree
#

yeah i have reset using the load defaults + done the power button press for 60 sec too

If it doesn't work, if you can, open the laptop to temporarily disconnect Cmos and main battery for a few minutes

#

then try again

#

if not just call lenovo

grizzled tree
#

yeah im at the call lenovo point atm - everything on the surface looks OK - unless its the nvidia GPU as that is the only thing this doesn't seem to test and it seems to be that point when it would normally show a UI that it keels over

#

SSD test is looking OK so far - glad I committed my project to git last night after it was working for a bit - that would have been a lot of work to lose but its not too bad now (thats what im gonna tell myself anyway!!!)
