We made a step back regarding the appearance of the augments with the last update in my opinion. They don't fit our game anymore. We have such a high quality graphics and artwork in arena but the augments seems to be from an other game. They are even harder to distinguish and recognize than before. After playing dozens of games with the new augment style, I'm still reading the text of each of them before picking one. because they almost look the same now. I hope we'll go back to something similar we had before.

Hellow, just here to add some context.
And hopefully show a method to the madness..
Components - yellow / red / blue
Red + Red = Red
Red + Blue = Purple
Red + Yellow = Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Blue = Blue
Yellow + Yellow = Yellow
The reason why we made a switch to colour coding and iconography is due to a change (once more) in what augments did and how they would be named.
We had many people complaining about old augments too.. -That it was hard to learn anything because often the images didnt correlate with the descriptions, the name or what they did.. They where just pretty,, abstract illustrations - Inherited from a time when Augments did an even different thing..
The reason we wanted to try a simpler style for the images, but a more elaborate moment has several reasons.
- We thought creating a colour coding system and iconography helps create a memory fortress and thus easier to remember when 'new' .. its always hard to unlearn things btw.. so i understand the complaints! 😛
- Augments are impactful and didn't quite get the treatment visually from a moment to moment. (altho this is also a balancing act imo.)
- Easier to switch/alter/add new things without spinning up an X day illustration that later gets tossed again.
- Team size, we simply dont have the budget, manpower etc to do the style like we did before..
Best thing to remember about all of this is that it's not set in stone.
We always listen and we will always try to improve there where we can.
However we too need to become convinced of it, but all these discussion of course help. So i do not at all want to stop them or stifle them.
Hoping to just bring some clarity as to why we tried change a few things.
There's good parts, there's bad - we evaluate and carry on improving!
Alright - that's it, carry on!
have a nice weekend 😉
Hi. Just an idea—give @pliant furnace a bit of funding and let him draw all the augments. I really liked his sketches. They’re way cooler than what we have now. 🙂
I didn't see anyone who like the new augments style. I only saw complain about the actual style. I really liked how it was before and really hate how it is now. My 2 cents.
This is what is achievable for free in a few minutes with AI today
Yeh we have the art done as you know, so not going to step into the banana that is ai art,, but mostly According to gamedesign these where too hard to learn for new people because they didnt quite represent the des ription or name. Was too vague and then too hard to memorize.
I really think it's harder now to memorise and the logos are smaller and sometimes difficult to see.
This is a change based on the art that has been done, I don't understand your point about not using AI
I'm not sure if the new ones are easier to remember and even if they are, they are also harder to distinguish from one another
If we put aside the fact that we have to unlearn previous items, I think that it's a step back
Im slowly adjusting.. but the one thing that gets me everytime is how blarring the logos feel when presented for selection..
When your given the 3 options, with limited time, I think the logos are highlighted too bright. Im personally more focused on text when selecting coz my eyes hurt looking at all three logos. I then try to learn what the logos are in game but when there is soo much going on in game, it can definelty take longer..
Having some sort of library in game with item descriptions would be helpful, similar to the help button you find on a pokie machine - Make it accessable when queing
Agree and noticed the implementation currently is not quite what it should be on the selection moment. Will dig into into it.
After playing with the new augs for a while, I still say put them back as they were, names and icons.
