After playing and watching the tournaments we've had so far, but especially after the last round in todays finals I've got (imo at least) some thoughts that might be useful and wondering if it's a minority view or if more people agree with it:
-I think the sit&gos are basically at a very good point for most people, I think the allocated spots from ladder,IPL points and sit&gos are basically close to perfect if not straight up perfect.
-I think RO64 and RO32 being BO2 is understandable with regards to time constraints. I think RO16 and Top8 being BO2 and BO3 is fine for IPL250, even with all the high variance it can lead to, but for IPL500+ the prizing is too significant to decide placements on that sample size, so if possible BO3 RO16 and BO5 finals in their own day would be way better, but because this is a lot of time needed a format where all 64 players play 5 games and at the end you take either the top 16 or straight up top 8 and let them play the finals could work, this way time commitment from all players is higher so in the last games you're gonna have drop outs for sure which is not ideal, but the flipside is everyone gets to play at least 5 games if they want to instead of 2 and done.
-I think it's great organizers are listening and banning terrible regions.
-Prizing wise I thought the prizing was pretty good before todays tourney but now I see it this way: Prizing from 64th to top 16th ->excellent.
Prizing for bot 4 in finals -> good.
But prizing for top 3 I'm of the opinion that the discrepancy is too big, and imo it's not justified that you can be 3rd with the same points as 1st and lose out on 1.5k$ or close to that. My proposed solution is that in the case of players being tied at the end they split the prizepool equally: eg(madeup numbers): if prizing is 1st-3k$, 2nd 2k$, 3rd-1k$, and they all end on the same amount of points, payout would be 3k+2k+1k(6k) divided by 3 equally.

I'm not in contention for consistent top 3, so more feedback on this would be needed from Slickz or Foxspirit basically, but in todays finals 3 things could've happened: Slickz could've been first because he placed higher last game, on even points with Muh and Foxspirit, Muh WAS first because he placed higher in the last game, on even points with Foxspirit, or Fox could've just keep placing higher and just win.
The fact that Slickz loses out on about 1-1.5k because the game bugged is just way too much, and I think it's the same in the other 2 scenarios as well, the difference in player play or placements doesn't justify that big of a difference in prizepool %.
So tldr is more games in ipl500 for 16 players on and tie breakers should spilt the two spots? Or just spread it more evenly
I really hope that the knockout format will never change to what Hollow suggested (I think it's complete nonsense), it seems to me that the tournament format is ideal, if we need to fit into 1-2 days for tournaments for 32 and 64 people, then the current system is perfect, maybe it's worth adding a couple more games to the final, but definitely not changing the group format
either, or, and anything works, can be BO5 finals ipl 500 with split on ties instead of tiebreakers, my ideal solution. If time is too much of a constraint just BO3 ties split instead of broken, i would do this for all places in top 8
I can't even understand what it means 64 people play 5 games and select the best 16 or 8, you want 8 people to play 5 games in the same lobby and 2 or 1 person to pass instead of 4? This is crazy, what if in the first round in one lobby there are 3 strong players who are contenders for the victory in the tournament? One or two of them should leave the tournament in the first stage, right?
But so far this is 1 guy and i don't know what the actual general thinking is
seeded, new game after every game, idk if that's actual swiss but it's somewhere there. There can't be 3 strong contenders cuz it's seeded, unless for some reason one is low seed. Ideal seeding would be combination of IPL points and rank
in the swiss version the winners play against the winners, in the 8-player format this won't work
in 1st IPL i got unlucky grp, coz some strong players was with low elo. so seding not work well every time
yea if you seed only on ladder it's not gonna work cuz too many good players don't no life it
From my personal opinion, the 64 tourneys are already far stretched if you get the chance to play until the end
Saturday we played about 7 hours straight (7 matches) straight and Sunday + 3 hours (3 games)
Maybe bo5 for final seems like a good idea if we keep it on a separate day
But i would not do the 64 play 5 games as my first pick, i would just add 1 game to top 16 and 2 to top 8, only in ipl500+
ye, agree with BO5. and what will be for IPL-1000? and for main event?
as more game we play, as more fair results will be.
but at other hand - as more game you play, as more tired you become
yes but it's one extra game in day 1 if you're top 16, and then 5 games new day just finals.
player wise i'd think it's fine, only organizer wise i'd think it's a problem
yestarday was long day. 6 games.
for today - ok, got 2 extra.
I don't think we should play more than 7 games in a single day
I personally start to make more errors and get tired pretty fast
it's basically a coinflip of do you wanna play 1 more game tired when you already made top 16 or do you wanna have less consistent chance to make top 8
IPL points also do not accurately reflect skill, just accept as a fact that seeds cannot be made ideal, so that it does not affect so much, we just need to make it so that after the first round the seeds are determined by the first rounds, the groups are constantly changing among themselves. in the current format, if fox gets caught with slickz in the same lobby, they are forced to play together until the final or until one of them flies out, just make (1st place from one group + 2nd place from another group + 3rd place from another group and so on) in all groups there will be the same number of players who took first and last places, and also each round you will have different opponents
ye i don't like playing the same group every game either, in my suggestion you would have to swap after every game, idk based on what it would be ideal and you'd guaranteed have dropouts 3 games in
in Phantom tournament we play snake-eyes, or how they call groups after each round. it's how that should be.
in other way i can just play any strats for top-4 and climb, like Whinni does: rush early lvl-6, put 7 earth, by spend all eco, but got into top-4 with it
You guys need to grow the fuck up and realize @solar dome is working his ass off to do all this stuff behind the scenes. He is doing everything he can to make this as fun and fair as possible. All while barely sleeping and worrying about his family. His Wife is about to have a baby any day now. If your worst worry in life is a fucking ILV tournament I feel sorry for all of you sad fucks.
this is a great pointless comment to a suggested numbers change.
