#IPL Sit & Go Phase

Most tournament qualifications happen through an initial Sit & Go phase. This structure aims to include as many people as possible and keep things fair

With the current 4-hour window, a large part of the player base is left out because it falls during standard work hours. Another issue is that within this short window, some players can fit in 6 games while others can only manage 5, depending on the regions they get and queue times. That’s a 17% point advantage for one lucky portion of participants

To solve both problems, I propose a full 24-hour Sit & Go window on Fridays, where only your first 5 games count toward the leaderboard

This would allow anyone to participate in the IPL while ensuring fairness, since everyone would be judged on the same number of games

There is a valid concern about “softer” time zones, but these are already less soft than before and will continue to improve as new players join through marketing and the IPL

I tried to find an 8, 10, or 12-hour window that would cover major time zones, but it’s impossible to include both American and European players for at least 4 hours (enough to play 5 games) without still hitting the softer time zones. That’s why I believe the best option is to open it for the full 24 hours and simply count the first 5 games on Friday

What are the best times of day to avoid the best players?

I'd like to propose a 24-hour window, start at 0:00 UTC Friday. Then rather than count the first 5 games, I'd propose a 7-match cap, and you take the 5 BEST rounds. That would allow top players to likely stay on top by tossing the 2 worst results, it allows those that have the time to play a full 7 match load to maximize potential, and for those that can't afford the time to play 7 full games, if you do well enough in the 3 or 4 or 5 games you CAN play, you may still have a chance. And if you are simply not all that skilled, it weeds out anyone who might go on a 24-hour bender just to get blown out in the first knockout round. Im sure Im way oversimplifying and have no idea the drawbacks, but that's my proposal

Do you think the 24 hour window maybe gives too much of a window for people to cheat or other issues to show up? eg wait till they see good players in a game and que multi accounts or something. The 4 hour window seems to force everyone to insta que to get the 5 games in which I think is healthy.

Not sure if this is a legit concern or not but maybe hedge it with a shorter period like 8 or 12 hours? with the first 5 games counting.

I find shorter time windows way more fun since we all gather on the same voice chat and check the standings in real time but since it's a workday it makes sense to make it a longer window to accommodate to every time zone, 24 is quite long however and promotes grinding so I'd prefer 12h instead

100% agree with the capped number of games although 5 is rather low considering that some players will have a lot of time to improve their scores so I'd suggest 7-8 instead

I think the better solution assuming the playerbase allows it is to just have 2 windows in different time zones and count the best

#

also the people suggesting 24 hour windows don't understand that some people will not sleep and actually play the entire window which is stupid when their argument is that people with jobs can't compete

but then u just turn it into luck more than anything

yea pretty much what i was saying in my first reply

I prefer the current model. It doesn’t force you to spend the whole day on qualifications trying to get five first-place finishes.

I'd prefer 6 games to qualify, 5 is a bit low

yea think with 4 hour window it needed to be 5 or some people got an extra game in on everyone else

no it's not, because everyone faces everyone in the current model, if you have a 24 hour window to play 5 games the amount of luck on matchmaking and abuse potential to play at best bot times or when the best players are done is just gona be insane

#

2 windows at different time zones is by far the best theoretical option, but because u need people to organize it and they need to sleep what we have now is by far the best option

The softer timezone is a valid concern for sure but i think its really not as soft anymore. Certain players might try to play there games in the night to catch those times so this will make them even harder for the event and equalize the whole thing

I think including everyone for qualifiers is a bigger positive than the negative of the soft time concern, dont you think?

2 biggest playerbase are america/eu and theres no way to include those without getting into the softer times anyway thats why i ended up thinking that lets just go 24h anyway then and include everyone 100%

This is why I suggested a 7 game cap, take the best 5 out of 7 games. Realistically, how many games are people getting if they grind a full 4 hour window? Probably 7ish. With a 7 game cap you eliminate the possibility of people grinding 24 hours to get 5 wins because after 7 games you're done, just wait and see where you rank at the end of the qualifying window. You also eliminate the ff/re-queue because those ffs still count against the 7 game cap. I guess what Im saying is that the sit n go qualifiers should be game-based, not time based. Heck, make it a 72 hour qualifier window starting on Wednesday(I know this is not real, just hyperbole to make my point), because then you'd give literally everyone enough time to play 7 matches. The results would be way more skill-based IMO.
