Dear team,

Please don’t take this as criticism of the amazing artists behind Illuvium — I genuinely believe their skill and talent are world-class. I fully understand that most of their time is focused on core game features, gameplay mechanics, and priorities that are critical to the success of the project.

However, I’d like to share some thoughts that I believe could significantly improve engagement and monetization.

⚠️ The Problem:
At the moment, none of the existing skins in Illuvium feel visually distinct or exciting. As a result, there’s little emotional or aesthetic incentive to spend money on them.

In my experience as a Dota 2 player, I only ever bought skins that made my hero stand out dramatically — not the ones that were barely different from the base model.

📜 A Lesson from History:
Dota 2 initially rejected user-made skins that strayed too far from the game’s default visual style, fearing it would break immersion. But eventually, they realized this approach limited revenue.

Over time, they began to allow skins that were bold, colorful, and far from subtle. The result? Players started buying — a lot. Not everyone liked it at first, but the majority appreciated the creativity and visual impact. Most importantly — it sold well, which is critical for sustaining a project.

🔥 My Suggestion: “Deep Skins” for Rangers
Introduce a new line of "deep skins" that:

  • Visually transform the ranger or character model far beyond recolors or minor tweaks.

  • Come with dynamic environmental effects and context-sensitive visual behavior.

  • Reflect a story, theme, or elemental connection — bringing the character to life in new ways.

#

Examples:

  • Titanor Skin: Cracks the ground with each step, rock fragments fall from the ranger’s shoulders, stone formations grow across the armor.

  • Pterodactyl Flame Skin: Burns the grass in Brightland Steppes as you walk, leaving scorched marks behind. In Crimson Waste, the armor glows hotter, reacting to the native environment.

💰 The Value:

  • A strong driver for cosmetic revenue.

  • Greater player attachment and emotional investment in their ranger’s appearance.

  • Increased PvP/PvE recognition and prestige — players become visually distinct and memorable.

  • Potential for community-submitted skins, curated and voted on by the DAO, just like early Dota 2 practices.

I’ve attached some screenshots from Dota 2 to show why people spend money on these skins — and why, by contrast, current Illuvium skins don’t yet offer that level of impact.

I truly believe implementing something like this could dramatically boost visual engagement and provide a new layer of identity, personalization, and revenue potential for Illuvium.

Thank you for reading and considering this idea.

With respect and belief in the future of the project,

P.S. Naturally,** all skins must be NFTs**. This is non-negotiable. In addition, some skins should be released tied to specific events, tournaments, seasonal milestones, and more. Many of them should exist as limited collections, which adds scarcity, collectability, and long-term value.
If skins are not NFTs — that would be a major missed opportunity.
