Hello everyone,

I've just read the latest announcement. I'm still an Illuvium believer, I really enjoy playing the game and want it to be successful. That's why I need to get a few things off my chest regarding the management of the tournaments.

In general, I think it's great that there are tournaments at the end of the month and that both the leaderboard and spontaneous players are included in the qualification process.
Unfortunately, the general organization of the tournaments and the dissemination of information is terrible. I will list a few points and give some examples.

Announcements:
The announcement for the first Tournament including all information regarding the qualification and the format was very late. Based on this and the fact that it was previously announced that tournaments would take place at the end of each month, people were expecting the next tournament to be on the 31st of May; even though there was no announcement yet. However, an announcement that it is basically "postponed" came out on Friday the 30th of May. People (me included) reserved the Saturday (31st) for the tournament but got disappointed.

At least it was announced that it will take place the week after, so we got all information more than a week before the event (which should be the absolute minimum timeframe to tell people in advance). Now 3 days before the qualification it got postponed again.

Talking from my perspective people need to plan. Most people have a job, family and friends and are not that flexible to just basically block every Saturday in case an Illuvium tournament takes place. In any reasonable Web2 game the tournament date, the patch it will be played on, and the format is set in stone more than a week before the actual event.

These late announcements do not only hurt the players themselves but also hinders the growth of the player base. Let’s say a very big streamer would have planned to stream the tournament on Saturday and communicated this to his/her viewers in advance. He /She would now need to reorganize his/her schedule and communicate to the viewers that a different game or normal ranked games will be played. Let this happen two times and the streamer is gone.

Information distribution:
Another major critic is the spreading of contradicting information. The last days, people were unsure on which patch the tournament is being played, when the reset is coming and if the tournament is getting postponed. Before reading anything in the announcement section people were privately discussing what is true and what is not. There shouldn’t be any rumors getting spread by the team, the council or any other party involved if it is not official (being stated in an announcement)! People asking me how they should prepare for the tournament while others telling me they read in the chat that the tournament is being postponed should never happen!

Impact on players decisions
Based on the announcement that the tournament will be on the 7th of June and the rumors that it will be played on the “bonding”-patch, some people (including myself) decided to use their limited time to practice on Testnet for the tournament instead of playing their 15 games on Mainnet to qualify for rewards. Now that the tournament got postponed all the effort “seems” lost and these people (at least me) will not be able to do the 15 games during the next 2 days. So once again this late announcement results in a strong negative sentiment.
To summarize, Illuvium needs to drastically improve communication if the goal is to appeal to a broad mass of people and build a large player base. In this regard, I think it would make sense to choose a dedicated person who has an overview of all important changes/patches, who takes over the communication regarding the tournaments and who is the only person who is allowed to make concrete statements in the chat (without prior announcement). I think there was already a similar proposal in this regard. @pure fog ?

Please let me know what you think.

You are right, all of this is very important. I also didnt do my 15 games this week because i prioritized playing testnet as it was the patch of the next tournament. I almost took saturday off but figured id wait to see if i qualify friday first

I, just like you, am all in illuvium and we are used to all those little things but it shouldnt be acceptable. A new player can easily turn around at the first sight of something like this

Communication is a big issue overall. Yes there was a proposal for it but it didnt get traction. Ive already started to talk to other current and upcoming council members about how to address the communication issue and i think we are onto something. Ill complete the new proposal by next week 💪🏽

Image and high standards are really important

Id also add that a tournament (especially the monthly big one) shouldnt be on a brand new patch. @tranquil egret pointed that out yesterday

He should plan on giving council something to do. How about community council manage tournaments? Should be a fun task for one person. We have Patate on ICC now and for another 9 months, so get him on that. He is pretty competent and he is already being paid. The DAO benefits from it. Could even see it as the DAO providing Labs a time, funds and place to host an event -> fully within web3 guidelines.

And we have a handover period so you wouldnt even have to inform the next council as councilmembers should relay that themselves Atlas_Thug
