You need 10 games minimum and to be top 8 in average place to play the finals.
So after your first 10 games, if you are in the top 8 you should avoid grinding or else you risk losing your points.
The rules are unclear because you can actually play on a 2nd account but it won't count for the leaderboard even though the opposite is stated in the official rules.
I suggest changing this poorly designed event or even removing it completely, it brings Illuvium down.

Players that reach the top 8 are incentivized to stop playing. The timing was special here as some still pushed to go over a certain treshold on real ilv leaderboard as we ended a season and today is the first day of the new season so they will push anyway and risk losing their top 8 because the real leaderboard is a bigger incentive
the 10 game minimum is fine as a too big minimum requirement would turn away more casual players but i suggest that we should be able to smurf at least if there other similar events in the future

The event rules, you can also smurf according to Illuvium as long as you open a ticket and you are not eligible for rewards with several accounts
So you could play 10 games with one account and grind the leaderboard with another one
I even had to ask about the rules twice, the first time there was no clear "yes" or "no" answer from the organizer

Next event ruleset will be like this: the minimum limit of required games is 15, please note: this means you have to play on your main account as playing on alt would validate ToS
