With the new MMO Lite starting to be developed, I think a lot of us in the community is excited to learn how everything is going to work, and I am sure I am not the only one speculating and thinking about the different aspects, and I thought I would share a few of my thoughts before we actually get to see what the team has planned… just to throw some ideas around 🙂

First one is the Story and how the OW Zone is going to work…

I hope the current Intro and start of the game, with the tutorial, will be l kept and tweaked to guide the player into the new world, it’s such a cool introduction to the story and will play an important role in sparking the interest for new players to wanting to learn more about the lore of the Illuvium universe. There needs to be some simple quests inside the OW that helps players gain the first skills.

The Zones are pretty big when not filled with a lot of stuff, but for combat and replayability to work, they are actually quite small. So a way to solve that there can be 3 different “Combat modes”

  • Openworld creatures roaming the OW Zones, where the ranger & Illuvial companion can engage and fight. They can provide XP and some basic loot, and be tied to simple quests.

  • “Rifts” - Enter these to zone into “Breach encounters”, which can serve as mini dungeons with the Roguelike concept, which encourage multiplayer and can offer some boss fights and loot.

  • “Illivial Encounters”, at specific locations on the map there will be an “Illuvial sphere” where the ranger zone into a new area that is basically the region Battleboard, but the ranger moves freely around with one Illuvial companion. here you will fight against Illuvilas, and if you defeat them have the option to capture one of them… or continue to “next round” and stronger Illuvials will spawn. (The first wave is T0 Illuvials, if you choose to continue you will pay a very small fuel fee, but you will get a chance to capture a T1+ if you defeat the encounter). You will only be able to fight with one Illuvial at your side, but you can swap in other Illuvials if the one gets knocked out. (similar to some pokemon games). the higher skill level the more Illuvials you can bring (up to 8).

**An important part of the new mode will be the Ranger progression and Skills. **

One way it could work is… To have a skill tree where you choose one skill to level up, as you gain XP you fill the “XP bar” of that specific skill, and when you gain the Skill your ranger will gain +1 level. You can change what skill to gain XP for, at any time… Some specific skills may require an additional item to unlock that skill, these Items would come from Loot as you progress in the game/story. This ties the XP/level into game progression, and can be used to “safeguard” specific skills, so as an example, you can't just max your travel skill without first beating a specific boss, that requires a certain level in combat skill.

The skill tree could look something like this….

#

With 3 pillars, for Combat, Engineering, and Illivial Master.

  • In the Combat tree you will need to specialise in Weapon & Armor (lvl 1-5) to be able to use the different equipment, and you can allocate points into a range of Combat related improving skills.

  • In the Engineering tree, you will specialise in “equipment” like jetpack, and travel skills, as well as Drone enhancements like added capture power and improved Shield for the Ranger.

  • In the Illuvial Master tree, you specialize in your Illuvials, with the first one being how many you can bring with you into the OW (1-8), Additional combat enhancements for your illuvials, Improve your Illuvials regeneration time after battle. This could also be where you can learn the skill to Fuse Illuvials.

Each of the Skill nodes requires a different amount of XP to complete, and gives the player the option to choose what to focus on, as you can focus on Combat, with few skills in Illuvial master or the other way around. Obviously the goal is to eventually master all of them.

These are just some ideas I thought would be fun to share, and I look forward to see what direction the new OW will take. Atlas_Love

There are good ideas.

You can't take 8 illuvials with you in overworld, the server will crash, i think Kieran said 3 max.

it doesn't seem easy to combine Pokémon with wow. (wow still the most active mmo) If you want to make a raid and have 1 Ranger + 3 illuvial each its to much. Maybe for Groups or grinding you can use your illuvials and in raids maybe fuse with your stronges or favorit one to become an individual, powerfull ranger. in the raid and become the same class as it.

Actually, think there is a better way for this.... " Illivial Encounters”, at specific locations on the map there will be an “Illuvial sphere” where the ranger zone into a new area ...."

If these Illuvial Encounters was made like a mini Dungeon, where you fight your way to the final room... which could be made as the Battle board, and as you enter, the sphere close around the area. and the battle begin against a team of Illuvials, and if you defeat them you get to attempt to capture one of them.

As you enter the Mini dungeon you get to choose the difficulty, between 0-5. this also determine what level of Illuvials will spawn as random in the end. (level 0 will be free and only spawn T0 Illuvials, Level 1 will cost 5 Fuel, and spawn T1 Illuvials, with random stages... Level 2 cost 10 Fuel etc.) . the level 5 Mini dungeons should be hard to complete and will require a strong team, with decent ranger equipment/level, but can also reward the chance to capture a T5 Illuvial. (might be able to make these encounters with multiple of your Illuvials fighting a long your side... if you have the skill level to support them).

These mini dungeons would be "single player" where both the OW and "Rift dungeons" would be multiplayer.... but I think it could actually work fine, as it also provides more diverse content... even if a group of 4 people enter the OW together they can fight together in the OW and Rifts, and then go to the Illuvial encounters and enter them by themself.. but they get to "chat/talk" about how the encounter goes for them... and they can choose different levels, so they also do not have to be at the same level when they enter the OW. they should also be fairly fast to complete so they will not have to wait that long for the others run.

i like the poe2 or FFX skill boards way more than the typical skill trees as you know them from almost all other mmo's

Totally agree... I absolutely love the poe2 Skill Tree too, but might be slightly too complicated for the MMO Lite., but I love the way you can really build a unique character with all the different options 🙂

The one I was thinking of, for what I added here, is the Skill Tree they use in "horizon forbidden west", which I also think has some nice concepts.

@bright nova and the team might have a nice one in mind already 😁

would also love to see a simple skill tree for illuvials, where you could increase either defense/OP/atk-spd etc.
Call it genetic enhancements or whatever 😄
