#balancing of the game needs to improve!

At the moment we have a really big issue with the game. There are two items that are completely broken: Adaptive Reflection and Blightfire. I'm pretty sure Adaptive Reflection is a typo, but Blightfire was already one of the best items in the game. At some point we have to ask why is an item like this getting buffed, and what can we do to prevent stuff like this from happening in the future?

These items take really low skill to play and it just makes the game completely unfair. In situations like this, we can't wait an entire month to get stuff that breaks the game fixed. That is unacceptable in my opinion, and I also don't see the reason why this can't just get hotfixed?

If this was TFT, the entire community would go crazy, but here it seems like we’re just supposed to accept it even if it makes the playing experience so much worse. Even if we are under development, if we want Illuvium to succeed, we need to hold a high standard. We can't keep making excuses that it's because the game is under development. Buffing an item that is already one of the best has nothing to do with that.

I can understand mistyping something on an item, but then you have to fix it as fast as possible. How well the game is balanced and how the dev team approaches things will be one of the main key factors in whether Illuvium succeeds or not, and I think we need to take this problem a lot more seriously than we currently are.

We really need hotfixes for blatant stuff, like the 8 fighters lobbies for example

I can totally understand the teams approach of going forward as fast as possible to get the game done to then be able to promote it

Weve been advertised that balance will lack during this period and that they cant stop integrating the new features for all the little things here and there and that makes sense

The game is still live though and i think its important to address the obviously broken stuff/bugged stuff as soon as possible when it happens

I agree, them not hotfixing it is a bit annoying but doubling Blightfire's damage on purpose isn't supposed to happen when it's already a good item

There should be a way to avoid making this kind of mistakes

there is, nil used to play the game live a bunch, but it seems if he has too much work on future stuff things can get fucky

We're doing our best to deliver patches fast, especially for cases like this. Please understand that this was not an average patch and it required more attention and careful execution, even though they were just value changes.

On the balance topic when you did that huge game timer change you said u're gonna keep adjusting until we were in a good spot but you didn't do that at all it is geniunely insane how atrocious unit balance is, we literally have 3 gold grilla 1v4ing an entire 50 gold backline and rhamphite casting blanks, the 3 costs are better than anything, all the psyons are absolutely atrocious, we nerf and buff stuff by fucking +200% in one patch as well, it's been 4 months of terrible balance compared to the initial patch, all the work for the future is useless if the game just gets worse

also the unit ai is so insanely bad, the amount of times they just for no reason switch focus on a low hp unit and just let it live for another minute is crazy, there has to be some sort of hp% prio added

Also the animation windup for the 0 costs is too high, they just troll their ults so often

#

grokko is somewhat decent, but volantes, dokkas and attipos are the kings of griefing their ults

Same with Vermillia's line and Rhamphy's line

fresh trout

i think those are fine for how impactful their ults are supposed to be

# fresh trout also the unit ai is so insanely bad, the amount of times they just for no reason...

This will absolutely not happen (except on a per unit basis with their ability) because if done, it would destroy many parts of the game.

Units that dash, go untargetable, etc are doing so to survive. If the enemy just instantly relocks on them because they are low hp then it ruins an entire aspect of the game.

Getting away on low health is part of the game and not “atrocious”. There is a reason other big titles in the space don’t do this.

Ability targeting is something we will improve. Things like abilities hitting dead units isn’t very fun and in some situations we will add some logic to get those projectiles to hit something alive.

im not talking about units going invunlerable and then not getting refocued, i'm talking about units changing focus for no reason and this happens when they get clamped so kinda the same problem as pathing

#

but i get the prio hp point

feral birch
# novel isle Same with pathfinding, especially when playing fighters I see a lot of inefficie...

Pathfinding works via hex distance not radial distance. We are looking into increasing hex sizes to make this more obvious. If targeting something very far away when something else is close happens, it’s a bug or related to that closer unit being untargetable. In any case these things we will improve over time.

It should be the case that units find the closest target (not the lowest hp target).

But remember abilities change this.

also there's one thing that does this a lot, a unit focuses a unit, the attacker gets stunned, position stays the same, but that unit on unstun starts hitting another unit

im talking about ranged attackers, with both units in its face

feral birch

But if both are just “in range” then it will pick up the closer unit. It is another aspect of the power of a stun.

There are definitely some bugs with these things, but probably fewer than you imagine.

Autobattlers have to follow a logic, they can’t be fps players that pick the right target.

Part of the “chess” is understanding this.

And as I said, some things like whiffing abilities, shouldn’t happen in many cases. But retargeting is definitely a part of the game.

You want your units to have an ability and position that allows them to get away on 1 hp. If the other units are really really smart, then it takes away from that.
