#Illuvium: Zero

Zero had a bumpy ride since the landsale where it got advertised that Zero will get approximately 5% of the total revenue, landholders being able to enjoy a beautiful game, landholders being able to use their produced fuel to buy stuff in the IP, landholders being able to create unique skins used everywhere in the Illuviverse and landholders having agency on the overall game economy with being the source of fuel which is needed everywhere in the IP to do ingame purchases. Some items got delayed, some items got changed, some items got deleted and the expected revenue was obviously not met.

To get to a revenue landholders will be happy about, the rails are set; lets make a great autobattler that is going to be played for having a fun time by many people either from web3 or web2 space. The leviathan mode in this autobattler should increase the demand for the Assets one can buy/farm in this beautiful universe of Illuvium and then there is a plan to even create more revenue with the upcoming MMO-Lite.

Land has had up until the moment of writing this post 2 roads to get a share of that revenue.
Either a landholder sells fuel on the FEX for a price he thinks someone else will buy his fuel or he creates Blueprints he can sell which are needed to create skins related to illuvials.

With the new system introduced in EP-1, the influence Zero had on the price of fuel gets erased and with that Zero gets decoupled from the economy while still maintaining the revenue share with the newly introduced mechanic of burning fuel.

The skin system is facing an overhaul which is at the moment of writing unclear how it will end up. The system itself is suboptimal and the armors(which the skins get applied to) are facing an overhaul themself.
Apart from that, the skins are said to be unfinished as well so no one knows what they actually will end up looking like. Additionally Illuvium introduced skins themselve and even expanded on the variations of the skins with for example battleboard skins where Zere has been left out of.

Looking back, and remembering that minting skins got tested in Alpha S1 which started 25.05.2023 there has been 1 additional feature introduced; Megacities. (which is more of a patchwork neighbourhood) So, there were 2 features added in 2 years.

Several items for Landholders are pending at the moment of writing.

  • Revenue share of items that were not priced in fuel, outlined in ICCP-17 is pending since August 2024. (Mainly being revenue from; Zero credits, cosmetics, beyond disks)
  • Fuel crate compensation outlined in IIP-54, pending since launch in July 2024
  • Megacity boost in fuel sales outlined in IIP-54, pending since launch in July 2024

As a landholder myself, I’m increasingly concerned about the direction Illuvium: Zero has taken, especially in light of the recent fuel economy changes. The vision we originally bought into has gradually been altered, uncertainty arround everything in Zero has grown over time and key aspects that made land valuable are either delayed, changed, or removed. The only feature being untouched (and delivered(not yet)) being the revenue share.
The change of direction in development with focusing on one game at one time and the recent lay-offs to increase runway leads to the question how development of Zero will look like in the near future.(Next 2 years) The team stated that we now focus on Gauntlet and afterwards development on the MMO-Lite will start... How is Zero fitting into that?

I would love to get some inputs from either team or Councils on the overall situation of zero, the text wall i wrote above and to get some questions answered like:

  • When will we see meaningful development of new features for Zero? (For example GFP-1)
  • When will the pending items be delivered? (ICCP-17 + IIP-54)
  • Will Zero get reintegrated in a meaningful way in the Ecosystem again, after getting decoupled from the economy with EP-1?
  • When can we expect the final version of the skins to be implemented?
  • Will Megacities actually turn into Cities or are we settling with the current “neighbourhood” solution?
(Please note that the “when’s are not meant to get exact dates. A for example “we will start developing in Zero again after MMO-Lite is live and running” is more than enough 🙂 )

I learned a lot with the illuvium ecosystem (the lesson is expensive)

Thanks for this summation Dr.Spoon, I think all of us landholders want to know these things.

when will it be worth to play Illuvium Zero ? you hyped so much about the Land use case and still the complete System nothing changed. Illuvium got really big interests and you still cant change anything do give your community anything positiv. Everyone who buyed a Land almost lost everything in this decision. Yeah its own risk invest in something. your vision could be big in future if you would make Illuvium Zero worth to play and give real earning chances. Also in Overworld you need to change things not all time the same it will be boring over time. your actually only good game is The Gauntlet mode but in case you destroyed so much trust in your Team if you dont work to get these Problems solved.

Excellent summary. I should pin this to everyone who asks about buying land in Discord so they really know what they are getting into

ILV just sunk to new lows, breaking the bear market support bands. Capital tends to flow to confidence...

wow
didn't expect much from councils.
But a bit more constructive and less emotional would have been nice. 🙂

What did my discord not show me here?

(I am as well disappointed in current council, not trying to be negative on spoon, also sad I feel like I should spell this out, but it is what it is in current governance)

I'd like to know how many are left working on Zero after the downsizing. I know the team was already pretty small.

Hi Spoon
most of the things asked here have been answered in the meeting minutes or other threads.
this is 11th of november imc minutes
as for the 40ETH debt to landowners, you can find in our minutes that we regularly followed up on this and the answers have always been "soon". what else should we do other than wait?

The 2nd Fuel Crate airdrop has been discussed multiple times as you can see from the minutes.
This is from 2nd of December 2024

We discussed with the council a few months back that the best way forward regarding zero is to make the landholders happy with revenue generation. To do that we had to make some tough decisions to extend our runway and build up the existing products that have the best chance to generate revenue, Arena and then Overworld. This doesn't mean we have abandoned Zero, but it does mean that development is on hold right now. We are constantly assessing things though, and when we start generating enough revenue to justify building new features into Zero we will do so, but as mentioned, I think for the average landholder their main focus is on earning revenue through their land parcel, gameplay is second. While better gameplay on Zero may increase revenue, we believe it doesn't have the same potential as Arena and Overworld.

If you believe IMC should do this in a formal and public way, you could push for a change in governance documents.

Thank you Kieran for showing up here, it is very much appreciated. 🙂
It's helpful to understand the current priorities. While I appreciate the focus on revenue generation, I want to point out that many landholders were drawn to Zero by its gameplay potential and integration into the Illuvium ecosystem. The earning potential certainly brought initial attention to land, but the elements that truly drove people to purchase were the ability to actively participate in the fuel market, potentially even influence it, and the interconnected features like using your own fuel, creating cosmetics, leveling Illuvials, etc. If it were solely about earning, investing directly in the token would have been a more straightforward approach many landholders would have chosen.

I honestly had some hopes that there will actually be side development on Zero, since mobile city builders have proven themselves to be highly effective revenue generators with relatively efficient development cycles. This is particularly relevant when considering the current need for runway extension and resource optimization aswell as the accessability in the crypto space with it being on mobile. However, the path forward is clear, and I and likely most others accept the focus on the MMO-Lite or are even super happy about it.

  • Could you provide more details on the metrics that will be used to determine when Zero development will resume?
  • Also, are there any plans to keep landholders more engaged with the project while development is on hold?
  • The deleted feature of fuel transfer to OW ranger seems to be a core pain point for many landowners. What's the reasoning behind it?
  • Am I understanding it right, that complete Zero development is on hold, so there won't be a BP/skin system overhaul, training grounds won't be developed anytime soon and we settle with what MC's are until further notice?

I guess i can speak for everyone saying that we understand the challenges and appreciate the transparency.

# last venture Hi Spoon most of the things asked here have been answered in the meeting minutes...

Hi Jag
I read the notes and i'm aware that IMC talked about it. (regularly might be a bit exaggerated 🙂 )
But that's all I read in discord or IMC mm and that doesn't answer any question, except maybe the question if IMC is aware of those pending items.

Those are outstanding items some since more than 3/4 year, yet everytime I ask I get the response we have talked about it, we talk currently about it and we will talk in future about it. 😅
The Fuel changes are about to get implemented, yet there is no mentioning anywhere about those pendencies.
