#GCCP Proposal: Reallocating Council Member Compensation to Moderators

Introduction:
I will be stepping down from my Community Council duties at the end of the month due to personal commitments, including my full-time job and caring for two six-month-old babies. Balancing these responsibilities with the schedule of two weekly Council meetings has become overly stressful, and I have concluded that continuing in this role is not feasible any longer.

Proposal Overview:
Instead of replacing me with another nominee, I propose that the DAO reallocates the $4,500 I would have earned the last 3 months of this Epoch as a Council member to the Moderators, who recently experienced a 50% pay decrease. This reallocation would recognize their invaluable contributions and help maintain the high standards of our community.

Detailed Plan:

  1. Reallocation of Funds:

    • The $4,500 earmarked for my Council compensation will be redirected to the Moderators.
    • This amount will be distributed among the Moderators to partially offset their recent pay reduction.
  2. Council Composition:

    • The Community Council will temporarily operate with four members instead of five.
    • This reduction in Council size means that proposals will require a majority vote of 3-1 to pass.
  3. Impact on Proposal Voting:

    • A 3-1 majority vote will ensure that only well-supported proposals are approved.
    • If a proposal fails to achieve this majority, it should be reconsidered, rewritten, or declined, ensuring that only robust and widely supported initiatives move forward.

Benefits:

  • Support for Moderators: Recognizing and rewarding our Moderators, who are among the best in the crypto/web3 space, will boost morale and maintain the high quality of community management.
  • Cost Efficiency: Reallocating funds instead of adding a new Council member ensures efficient use of DAO resources.

Conclusion
This proposal seeks to reallocate my Council compensation to our dedicated Moderators, providing them with much-deserved financial support.

I will keep my comments short, but I would recommend the following updates:

  • 2 vs. 2 vote outcome for ICC Voting: Where does it go? This touches on the issues with "tiebreaker" scenarios previously discussed. I would assume it goes to IMC and their votes will determine the outcome.

  • In Governance any vote with "3 affirmative" votes (3 approves) passes a proposal from ICC to IMC. No need to have these two sections since it already applies in governance:

o This reduction in Council size means that proposals will require a majority vote of 3-1 to pass.
o A 3-1 majority vote will ensure that only well-supported proposals are approved.

  • GCCPs & GIPs - the way the Gov V3 is written, it will required a supermajority of 7 out of 10 votes to pass; Technically this leaves room for interpretation since one vote is gone, the supermajority will change. Gov V3 sets precedent that Supermajority is 70% which means 1 less vote will still require 7 affirmative votes to pass GCCP or GIP. This just means starting at a handicap since 1 less voter is present

Personal stance: This is similar to the other recent proposal where we are mixing two aspects of Illuvium that should not cross: DAO pay for Council (Council funds) and Illuvium Labs delegation of their operational funds (paying employees/contractors of Illuvium). The DAO/Treasury should not be paying things like this or medle in the operations of day-to-day activites for Labs.

Hi F4E,

I appreciate your decision to step down due to personal commitments. You have been one of the biggest supporters of Illuvium, and I hope you will continue to be. Thank you for your contribution to our governance in this epoch.

It’s a nice idea and I’m supportive of not replacing the council member to save funds.

However I’m voting no because although I agree that the mods do a great job, presumably their pay was cut because cost savings are needed.
I also assume that cost savings are still needed.

It’s a lovely gesture, but I suspect that it is not the council that sets moderator pay.
This is therefore setting a precedent that probably isn’t helpful.

Just guessing, so will change my vote if I’ve made a false assumption.

Congrats on the two 6 month olds. A bigger win than anybody can achieve in crypto. 🙂

# lean saddle If the funds don't go to the moderators they will go to the new council member, ...

It is possible that your recommendation to not appoint a new council member will be accepted.

Even if not, you are making an assumption that the people who happen to be mods right now are the only people who will ever work hard for the game / community.

That’s a big assumption and something we have no way of knowing.

Spending a lot of time helping others on a forum is a big help to the community, but mods were all regular forum users once. Of course there will be other people who will work just as hard as them in the future.

Let's end our disagreement there

Thank you, @lean saddle , for your kind words and recognition of the Moderation team’s efforts. I (We) truly appreciate it! Atlas_Love
However, I also understand that in times like these, most likely every department has had to make sacrifices to extend the project’s runway. As Moderators, we are simply doing our part to contribute to that effort, just like everyone else.

While the intention behind this proposal is greatly appreciated, I believe that Illuvium Labs is the only entity with the full picture of financial allocations across all departments. They are in the best position to determine how funds should be distributed to ensure that we have the best possible shot at long-term sustainability.

That being said, I deeply value the support from the community and you, and I (we) remain committed nonetheless to maintaining the high standards that make this community so special. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter, and thank you for your service 🙂

Started writing last night and then wanted to sleep on it.

First, I thank you for stepping down since you have realized you don't have the time to put in. Your family is more important.

Second, I think we have an absolutely amazing group of mods. They are helpful, knowledgeable and present on the Discord. It has been great to see community members who provided a lot of value be given the positions. I am thankful for each of them, I think they make Discord a far better place.

I still thumbs downed this. I would thumbs up not putting in another council member. However, it's like the other proposal that was brought up aobut giving the funds to content creators. I do not have access to the financial documents. I don't know where the money is best spent. Maybe it would be best spent on mods but maybe other parts are cut even further etc. I do know that we should be saving where we can so if we can save one council salary that would be good.

So, yet again, wish this had been put up as two separate proposals.

Hi, yes 👍🏻

I will not vote up/down on this to let community sentiment do its thing, but in general my issue with this is similar to with the other GCCP, that we are mixing two different issues and they should be separate ones. I love the mods too and think they do a great job, but I’d start by putting forth a GCCP to just leave the 5th seat vacant.

With that said I think Patate would actually do amazing work and I hope to see him get the chance.
