#OW - Is it too Much to Ask for Both?

I've seen more recent AMA's and Discord discussions for months regarding the OW experience compared to the dopamine rush of opening packs more similar to Beyond, or the new Pokemon TCG app.

Can we provide both experiences to players?

Option 1:

  • Buy a card pack of illuvials
  • $5.00-$10.00 per pack
  • Stage, tier, and stats RNG tracks with current OW system.

Option 2:

  • Play OW
  • $0.20-$2.00 per run, subsidized by your time hunting and capturing illuvials.

OW is already being somewhat converted to an RPG with a campaign option, and the current maps can be used for quests, exploration, NPC interactions, and grinding/raid/dungeon opportunities. This means whether a player opts for Option 1 or 2, there is somewhere for them to take their illuvials to play, grind, etc.

Additionally, there is the collection aspect to illuvials, and the potential to bring them into Arena and future games.

Personally, I would tend to use both options. Play OW to catch illuvials for fun maybe 1 run per week, but I could see myself buying chunks of packs when I just want to see what I got but don't want the time drain, then play OW and grind for fun on top of that.

Thoughts?
