Problem: The ILV ecosystem needs additional use cases to boost the market for its assets (Fuel, Illuvials etc.). BUT, there is a clear limitation on focus, time and budget for Illuvium labs to be able to quickly deliver more games / applications.
Idea: The DAO could look into allowing 3rd parties to create mini-games that use the Illuvium IP on the condition that
1- Council and/or Labs review and green-light the ideas first
2- Any such games / apps require the use of fuel and Illuvials (fuel to play the games or unlock features)
2- The DAO receives a royalty for allowing the use of the IP and helping with the blockchain integration in the form of a % of the fuel used in the game (say [50]%). That fuel is then burnt
3- The 3rd party game devs receive the remaining [50]% of the fuel consumed in their game (real % TBD on a case by case basis). They can resell it to generate an income for themselves.
Pros:
- Provides additional sinks for Fuel and more uses for Illuvials and potentially other assets (e.g. Illuvitars, items...)
- Aligned incentives: the 3rd party game dev would only benefit if they create mini-games that people want to use fuel on
- Limited incremental game development cost to the DAO
- Opportunity for small independent studios to easily step into blockchain gaming and benefit from the infra, IP & community ILV built (not having to start everything from scratch is a strong selling point)
- Those with WIP (crypto) games can also benefit from integration with Illuvium IP (Illuvium-themed version)
- ILV could become an infrastructure play in the eyes of investors instead of being seen as only a studio / game token
Cons:
- Cost and time to discuss and source licensing deals and set up the infra to allow for this to integrate and work smoothly within the Illuvium ecosystem
- DAO and ILV labs relinquish some control / oversight over the use of the IP
