#My vision for Arena

Here are my thoughts. I think they based on facts.

  1. Gauntlet (regardless of normal/Leviathan mode) is our flagship game in Arena.
  2. Gauntlet is what is going to bring in real players (TFT has 30 mil active).
  3. Gauntlet is where most of our Arena dev time is going (rightly so).
  4. The majority of our players don't care about Survival or Ascendant (they can have a future but not right now).
  5. We have too many game modes for the amount of players we have.
  6. By having too many game modes we are confusing new players as they have no idea what game "Illuvium Arena" actually is! (For most It's Gauntlet Ranked)
  7. They click on survival and don't like it or confused why no PVP = BOUNCE!
  8. They click on Ascendant, get confused about decks and 1v1 = BOUNCE!
  9. They click casual gauntlet but can't find a match because everyone is in ranked = BOUNCE!

**New player on how to play Gauntlet right now: **

Click Arena, click around all the different game modes reading, click Gauntlet, click Ranked, click Continue, click Find Lobby (you're now in queue for game)

What I propose:

Click Arena, click Free To Play (you're now in queue for game).

75% reduction in clicks, forces players where we want them to be, they are happy in a game.

You've got to keep in mind that they already have to get through the hoops of IMX passport which is a lot more clicks and messing around, so simplicity inside the game is essential.

New players don't care if they are in ranked or casual, they just want to be in and want to play "the game". Do you think new players in Off The Grid would care if they were in a ranked or casual game from the get go? No, they just want to play! BTW Off The Grid has one game mode, straight in no messing about.

**TLDR **

Within Arena, Gauntlet is our ONE SHOT at bringing in REAL PLAYERS (from TFT), so let's funnel players straight into it. No messing about. Reduce clicks, reduce bounce rates, remove complexity, improve matchmaking and player retention.

I like it. Pretty much nails it.
Like you say, other game modes can be added in future as the playerbase grows, but for now, we do need to get people in game and playing as quickly and seamlessly as possible, without too much added complexity. This goes a long way in achieving that.

Also every time you do a click right now it loads something. The menu needs to be way smoother. When you are in the LOL client you can switch game mode instantly.

Can confirm that both labs and council are looking at Gauntlet as the gateway game to get players. In other words, current direction is "all roads lead to gauntlet" short-term.

also the ui will be reworked as per labs to make it front and center to go into gauntlet (f2p/ranked).

For those who already play iluvium, I think this change is great.
However, this level of UI change will not be enough to attract new players.

The biggest obstacle is creating an IMX Passport account before going to this selection screen.

I think Gauntlet should be released as Web2Game.

Sparkball,” which is gaining momentum right now, is scheduled to be released as Web2Game.
I think this would be a better reference to attract casual players in general.
