Gauntlet leaderboards started a couple days ago. Kieran said its up to the community whether the current leaderboard will reset or not when season 3 rewards starts

I personally think it should reset for those reasons:

  1. People dont know it would have started and therefore would feel rugged to start 10 days+ after the others

  2. from what i heard leaderboard currently doesnt account for rating and only gives a flat number of points depending on your position. This rewards grind over skill and has to be fixed

I think we should also have placement matches, but i understand if it cant be implemented on time

  1. @summer spade made by far the best patch we ever had but hes still adjusting by the day and we would benefit from having the patch a bit more polished to start off the competitive scene

I would also like points to be awarded based on the average arithmetic rating of the players. And not as it is now (fixed value).

i also think we should still have some event/tourney reward for the current leaderboard

like top 16 or whatever are in the semi-finals. then top 8 finals.

Agree , reset should be implemented , i am still at a phase of trying different type of team since it was a late start than the others , a reset would be fair when s3/compete starts

I thought the reset is a given. this is after all pre-season right now. Has someone heard anything from the team saying otherwise?

It will be open season! Can't wait for S3 to start!

I will say we need to have an algorithm to reward/punish points based on elo. Otherwise this will heavily reward those who can just put in the hours.

Resetting per season should always be the right decision here 😛

No official info but Kieran said to people in voice chat that there would be something for them

If theres something it needs to be official and clear. Not only to be fair but for illuvium to reap the benefits of it (incentivize to play and invest in the ecosystem)

Hard reset before competitive scene kicks in + soft resets for the following seasons, as you don't wanna mix the playerbases with a hard reset, i.e diamond playing with bronze/silver.

We should also think how we are going to brand our competitive seasons, and what durations they will have. Cause right now we are at season 3 for the airdrop, but this is not season 3 competitive, it will be season 1.

Of course it should be reset. People should be told when an event is starting, not just "yeah, that started awhile back".

I agree on reset, but I also think there should be some kind of rewards for the current leaderboard as well. The people playing right now, providing feedback, testing things out, figuring out bugs, providing balance change inputs etc. despite mainly playing for fun, but also to practice for competitive; should be rewarded in my opinion, not only reward/airdrop farmers

As you said to people in voice chats that there would be something for current leaderboard i think it would be beneficial for all if you would announce it clearly. It would make it fair but also make ilv reap the rewards (make people play & invest in the ecosystem)

No brainer really; how not resetting the leaderboard before the season starts is even a question is kind of mind boggling.

Why tell the entire user base points are stopped and then to a select few, oh no they are back running again? Before any sort of official comms on it? Like I’m sorry, what 🫠

Not sure if it's been suggested before, but TFT always gives the same amount of points for 4th place regardless of mmr (+10), to avoid spots where players would place 4th and either gain nothing or in outlier cases even lose mmr, and i'd like to suggest 4th place acts the same way in Illuvium.

I think there are two ways to implement a fair leaderboard ranking system. Either you have a somewhat static Elo gain, but the lobby waits to fill up with players of a similar rank. The problem here is that with a smaller player base, very high-ranked players would wait forever to find seven other players in their ranking.

Alternatively, you could match up with anyone, and the Elo gain or loss would be heavily impacted by your opponents' Elo. So, beating higher-rated players would give you more points, and losing to lower-rated players would result in losing a lot of points. Downside here is that beginners could be matched with experienced players and therefore give a bad gameplay experience to both sides.
