#Merge fuels into 1 outside of Illuvium Zero

Hello,
I would like to propose to merge fuels outside of Illuvium Zero. There, it makes sense to have 3 fuels so game has additional complexity. However, for Overworld, it adds unnecessary complexity, specially for new players. Whole onboarding process is difficult enough, so lets make it easier. For combining mechanics, I think we need some action in Zero, as there can be inconsistency if we would just combine them in backend, as user can have different amounts of fuel and he might want to sell only hyperion part for example.

Proposed plan in steps:

  • keep 3 fuels in Zero
  • add some action/building that combines them and prepare them for sell
  • in Fuel exchange, there is only 1 fuel
  • 1 fuel is used for all Overworld things where fuel is used

There was a long discussion about this few months ago and the community chose to remain as it is. Not sure if it's still considered, Aaron said they are working on some adjustments.

Lore can be easily made to fit this change, it's not a good argument. We don't even know how it's tied to the lore yet, so how is that relevant.

Yes, as part of the overall bigger problem, the monetization. Cause the games are not even bad, much bigger garbages have 50-100k players, which I think we can easily achieve with an improved monetization model and alot of qol improvements.

Exactly monetization is the problem not features, but I gave up writing about this (really wrote a lot regarding this) because it seems people still believe in miracle features that are able to overcome this monetization problem. Will start reminding them about this after new combat and other features alone weren't enough to change the situation

I know, but this is something I won't do anymore. Sure, we could go with this and correct everything that is wrong with the game and the gameloop with proposals, but Illuvium created so many problems with the launch that it can't be correct from the outside with proposals. Labs has to understand the issues and address them from their side.
Core Issues:

  • parts of the game are still way too expensive and prevent any sort of fun. Gems, shards, essences are major cost points and super rare. It would be more than enough if only Illuvials are a driving factor for costs. With that at least we could get excited about finding an octius.
  • game loop is completely broken, because a "smart" way to get into runs is farming t0 ringnuts to get around this game killing integrity system. The only "reasonable" alternative is entering an encounter, check stats, escape and run back to that point on the map, because you start over from the closest teleporter.
  • The monetization in general causes every fun aspect of the game to diminish and causes people to play in a way that has nothing to do with gaming.
  • We have extreme pay to win armaments which costs 32k solon (30$ even with fuel this cheap) in crafting costs without including material costs
  • We have 1062 T5S3 Illuvials which means we can only create 177 full decks with all minted Illuvials. What kind of competitive scene do you want to build with that?
  • Complex fuel system

There is no miracle feature or magical arena incentive that will bring people to cross this mountain of resistance and pain OW was turned into upon launch.
OW is just a hugh mess, because of the terrible greedy monetization system and the need to artificially preserve nft value. I don't even take a look at the arena anymore, because it is such a pain to farm Illuvials in this system. Ofc a game that only has a place for whales will eventually die.

Since it seems we sit here and wait for the miracle feature "combat" that will cause all people to ignore the core problems written above (obv. that won't happen), there will be even more pain until we finally can address the core issues and move forwards. Until we reach that point a lot of time will have passed and we only can hand out the 2nd batch of Illuvials with a way better monetization to not damage the initial core player base too much, but at that point 1st wave is beyond repair.
It would be good if stuff like rocks, shards, gems, plants and essences were free to farm and the game would be just about fighting through the Illuvials to get the best. For that purpose, I would also show the stats of every Illuvial only after an encounter was defeated. With that we would at least have a sensible game loop instead of skipping 90% of encounters or farming t0 for ringnuts for hours. The entire mindset in regards of game design is poisoned by wrongly established web3 mechanics and greed, if we as a community have to write proposals for stuff that is this obvious. In the end labs has to have a sensible vision for a good game design and a good monetization that works in sync with that game design. Tbh. They proved that they lack realism in that regard.

To your point, I only started playing more overworld lately because it's finally cheap enough for me to consider paying for it (yes that's how much I think the current overworld experience is worth, maybe less) and that's only because I can see the stats of Illuvials right now. After they implement Illuvium combat, I probably will just go back to building my lands and crying in Solon.

Kieran has made it pretty clear that they are very aware that the monetization system needs to change, I'm sure they are working on something. In saying that I think 1 fuel is better but for me the bigger issue is basically every action costs money

If merging fuels in OW makes more sense, I don't mind it. However, I think we're only seeing this as a problem right now because we have no other good use cases for a 3 fuel system, which could be handled by putting out better games and gameplay mechanics. There's no reason for 3 fuels right now.

I'd rather go the direction of making the 3 fuels meaningful as the long term strategy, but short-term, maybe 1 fuel is sufficient

I'll also say that although new features, like Illuvial combat, may not save the game by themselves, implementing the right cohesive mix of gameplay mechanics over time can still have a positive effect that may not be reflected in the numbers immediately

ok, that is a start, but it isn't enough. I am 100% with you that the every action costs money is the worst part. We are 3 month in and nobody knows what will change. If I play now and pay for every rock will I get compensated if every rock is free in the future? I think they started way to high in terms of costs and now they only can correct it by enraging their core playerbase. Mostly I am sitting here and don't play, because all this has to change and it already should have been changed (changing some numbers in an existing code isn't even difficult). We waited so long that meaningful changes during wave 1 basically aren't even possible anymore. That is something I can't understand... why are they leaving things as they are if it is already clearly that most people are unhappy about it and growth is clearly not possible also... Maybe, we truly have to sit this out until wave two hits to not enrage early users.
Regarding the topic: Ofc. 1 fuel for OW is the better choice not even a question.

yea this is the major issue. Cant really change anything without pissing off those that spent leveling farm ect. I'd like to see them make XP runs (and maybe resource runs) free once combat is out. Yes people may be pissed but also the money we spent is meaningless if something doesnt change anyway.

I'm with you, kind of sitting out atm (building a team for ascendant was reasonable enough. Leviathan gauntlet too much for me). And waiting for free gauntlet with a leaderboard/ranking system and seasons ect (rewards is a bonus)

agree, better to enrage some and have a way forward than doing nothing, but that is easy for me to say, because I invested only like 40$ in OW runs.

Yeah, wanted to build an ascendant team as well, but it takes so much time doing it without wasting money (as I said every move costs and therefore game is painful). Not even finished with tier 3, because essences are a pain and I am kinda picky regarding stats. Wanted to have most Illuvials to compete next season, but I think I won't get a decent selection together
