#OW Missing piece

As a casual I'd like to see an OW experience, that I can use my assets for.

One that'd make me want to repeat T0 runs until I find those T0S3 as f2p.
At the same time one where I can flex my sexy T1-T5 units as a paying player.

An activity that is rewarding, not just dopamine and a good time, but also items to use in OW runs, or even enable me to do a paid run for almost free.

This solution tries to maximize already available mechanics, to reduce Implementation time while trying to achieve maximum impact:

Project Bossclap (not final name xD)

A 4 Player vs Ai Battleboard Wave experience.

Players queue in Sanctum Mesa until 4 Players have been found. Using their ingame Overworld Team.

Every normal wave, each player can place 2 Illuvials(waves may be copied from existing survival waves).

Every 3rd or 5th Wave is a Miniboss fight (XXL version of existing Illuvial)

After each Miniboss, every player gets to pick one of three random Upgrade (the ones we already have in Arena/Gauntlet)

Repeat until 3-6 Minibosses have been defeated (whole session should take like 20-45 minutes).

After the last Miniboss, the Endboss fight comes(can be another XXL Illuvial until first final Boss/Leviathan was finalized).

Each player can place 4 Illuvials to try to defeat the Endboss.

Rewards:
Illuvial exp (the further you get the more you gain, doesnt need to be much in general tho)

OW buffs for each miniboss defeated (doesn't rly hurt the economy to give out some free T1 buffs, does it?)

Finalboss reward:
A chance to gain a free Steppes T1 Ticket, however:
Limited to once a week/bi-weekly.
Free Ticket entry only gives 650 Energy.
Doesn't include shards.

For now I guess one Stage is good enough, could be extended in the future tho with harder stages and better rewards.

Remarks:
No entry fee.
Finalboss has no Affinity.
Finalboss can be beaten by using only T0S3, but not guaranteed.
No Ranger placement.
Unlimited switching allowed.
No drastic short timers.
Autokick AFK Players.
May be Limited to 3 tries a day to limit exp and buff farming (need to handle afkers and disconnecters somehow then tho, maybe just cancel the Match to not use up one of the daily tries)

What do we gain?
Casual Gameplay outside of Arena.
Additional Illuvial Usecases.
Hopium for f2ps.
F2P exp farming.
A fun daily activity.
Have a full GameLoop for OW.

4 Illuvials might be a little too much on the current battleboard size, so let's say Players can place 3-4 Illuvials in the Finalboss fight.

Ragarding the free ticket entry: extra energy portals should be disabled in those runs.

Also for everyone internally screaming, I'm talking about a chance to get one, not a guarantee.

Even if its just 1% 21 times per week if you play it 3x daily, that's enough hopium for f2ps.

I like the general idea. It could even be a hole dungeon crawler in which the upcoming OW combat feature is usable, or in which you are one of your Illuvials and enter with friends. For the start a simplified arena version like yours would be a good idea for sure.
In terms of rewards it gets pretty difficult because of the usual bot topic, but also because items in games are usually inflationary. At first only the best have it and with more time everybody has these items. We don't have desirable items like that at the moment.

  • We could hand out tier 1-3 consumables, which at least helps during a paid run.
  • We could create items which can be equipped by our Illuvials (As I said they would be inflationary)
  • If the content is challenging enough and therefore more unlikely to get botted you could get other rewards as well, but difficult content wouldn't be doable for t0 Illuivals
  • Even ranger gear would have been a good reward option. OW is over monetized anyway.

Honestly I think features like this would be easily on the table if Illuvials would be attainable for the masses. High value Holo and dark Holo skins would still get people to put a lot of money into OW
We don't need free to play content we need Illuvials in the hands of the masses. If basically everybody has them we can have big player bases in many games and could make millions in revenue alone with skins, battleboards, beyond.
As it is now I don't think handing out free runs to potentially easy botable content is a good idea, but the general prospect of having crawler/raid like elements is a good idea, which, I guess, is at least partly on the teams list.

The core of this idea is definitely not the free run Tickets, those just came in here as incentive to keep the queue full so matches are found rather quickly.

The Finalboss reward can be pretty much anything.

Main goal is to have a daily f2p activity, so Mainstream/casual/budget players keep coming back.

Just like any gacha has you logging in daily for a handful of gems, some with actual fun content.

yeah, I don't really see fun content with the current f2p Illuvials. They just don't offer enough. I could see a similar feature for all Illuvials. That means the content would be too hard for the f2p Illuvials alone.

This idea is utterly useless if raids are already in the works, but a nice to have if raids are scheduled for 2025 onwards

Generally speaking, It'd be nice to have content in OW thats repeatable and not behind a paywall.

Thats why I chose this title. I'm already having a hard time finding Motivation to login to Illuvium.

Mainly due to the lack of players in Arena, f2p teams being too OP to play your own team (as nonwhale) and gauntlet being full of bots.

This Feedback-Idea was my personal contribution to try increasing the active player count.

But I respect your position on that.

I agree with your sentiment and I like the general idea. I just think that reducing the overall pricing to make Illuvials achievable for everybody and therefore have real competition in the arena, not the whale battle it is now.
With that a boss battle as you described can also be very fun for everybody, because people can use all Illuvials. With that the need for more f2p content would also vanish.

More XP. Could be fashioned into a dungeon crawler type thing with story telling once multiplayer overworld combat is introduced. It could also randomly spawn in some of your Stage 0/1/2/3 runs randomly and you could choose to fight the inital boss to enter the dungeon mode with your friends. Like an extension portal of the existing fuel runs--but with minibosses and bigger potential rewards.

I'd say for rewards--you could be able to see the stats on a regular size version of all the illuvial bosses and potentially capture them. If captured, they become a regular illuvial for you in your inventory. So if the boss was guaranteed to be a mixture of T4 and Tier 5 illuvials for higher stage runs--it'll equate to more chances at capping the best illuvials. But focused around co-op strategy with your friends.
