There was also a thread for too many shards. I think this ties back to that in some capacity. Too many shards, too many fragments to some extent.

Overall, the cost of a master shard is directly impacted by the price of fuel. Since fuel prices drop, shard prices drop.
Im personally of the opinion that the amount of fragments required is high enough. The issue is just that there is no constant for fuel, which makes pricing items difficult (read impossible). I dont think we should complain about low shard prices while fuel is inflating at +400%~ fuel per purchase right now.
However, we also see an oversaturation of low tier shards. Just like with accessories in beyond, the tier system is not really adding anything in this mechanic. You only require the best T4+ shards as the low tier ones dont cut it for most of your captures.
A new animation for fragment obtaining is a lot of work for little value.
If this were to be pushed, i would suggest: reduce fragment chances on T4-T5, remove deconstructing, and entice players to throw T1-T3 stuff in the hopes of getting fragments. And then also balance it to the Tier of the illuvial. I.e. T1 shards wouldnt drop fragments on T4/T5 illuvials.
But with current fuel fluctuations i would say that it is not a priority to fix right now. Price will fluctuate with fuel price regardless.
